Love our Hot Pepper Lariat (non-FX4), but one thing bugs me, it is really bouncy. Like coming off the driveway bump for example head gets thrown side to side, and for similar things on the road. Will different shocks help

Hi Chuck! Yes, new shocks will help! I noticed the same thing on my '22 XLT. Switched out the rear shocks to Bilstein 5100s and noticed marked improvement!

that is great to know. Multiple 5100 types, is there a specific one you did?

My 22 same , head bobbing in a turn and bump. Upgraded Rears to the 4600’s , issue resolved.
I am not planning any lifts or levels so just went with the 4600’s

Many long conversations about that here.

Some say shocks, some say springs, some say rear sway bar, there is a lot of good info here.

I say all of them!

The shocks job is to control the chassis movement as well as control the spring bounce and rebound, the non Tremor Rangers have a mono rear spring and a overload bottom spring, Tremors and global Rangers have multi leaf springs, 3 leafs plus overload, they are self dampening from the the friction between the leafs, that really helps excessive bounce and greatly improves the ride.

The addition of a rear sway bar from Hellwig will help the side to side rocking quite a bit, but wont help the ride.

So depending on how far you want to go, or how much you want to spend, you can really reduce the rocking over bumps and improve the ride.

Shocks is a great place to start, should settle it right down.

Some have done all three!

Good luck, let us know how it goes

Replacing the rear shocks is one of the best $200 you can spend to improve your truck.

Since yours is not an FX4, I don't know if the difference will be as noticeable as when I replaced my FX4 shocks.

Didn't take long after changing the rears out that I replaced the fronts too.

I have also replaced my rear mono leaf with a set of Tremor leafs.

Now 100% happy with my ride.

I test drove a Tremor and I really liked the ride, and I mistakenly thought the non tremor would be even better for on road.

So something like this rear sway bar kit with my current set up of using OME 2" suspension kit would help? Even with my suspension kit I'm still finding the truck to bounce around. Maybe add two more shocks from OME? o_O

Yes, I got the std height kit, a member suggested just putting it at its stiffest setting, so I played around with it and agreed, full stiff, I could feel the difference between med and stiff, it really helps on the highway, feels better when changing lanes, or when you have to react to something and yank the wheel, the back of the truck follows the steering input better.

almost any aftermarket shock is an upgrade from the the ones that came on the 5g rangers. I think i posted a picture here a while back but one of my rear shocks was toast in less than 20k miles. when i removed it i could almost play it like an accordion lol. after new shocks the truck felt a lot better.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
I just went full EiBach on all four corners with coil overs in front, that took care of the bounce, looking like I may also do the anti-sway bar because I get some 'rocking' when being towed by the RV on sharp turns.

Gosh today I learned I'm such a goober because I enjoy my "pickup truck wiggle".

This is great food for thought down the road, though, as famously "nothing lasts forever" and I'll certainly be interested in an upgrade when I replace.

Don't feel bad.

I didn't think that mine was all that bad either.

After reading everyone on here talking about what a big improvement was made, I grabbed the rears when they went on sale even though my truck only had around 5k miles.

I didn't realize how bad mine was until I installed the Bilsteins and felt the difference.

Totally worth the upgrade.
