I just upgraded to a phone with Android 10. I now have very choppy audio on my Sync 3 system. What's weird is that it happens only when either stopped, or driving slow (say <15 MPH). I tried the same phone in my wife's escape, and it is fine. I also tried my wife's phone in my truck, and it was fine (hers is an iPhone). Weird! I have had 2 phones now (both on Android 10) that have this problem. Has anyone else seen this? I have downgraded the old phone back to Android 9, but haven't had a chance to test it to confirm that is the problem.

Well that sounds strange. Maybe that phone has an issue?

Maybe, if your dealer has a good tech guy, he could help to diagnose it.

Android 10 has done a lot to try and not use battery while sleeping - that could possibly be part of the issue. Things have gotten so complex, with so many moving parts sometimes it is hard to know where the issue is.

Thought so too, but 2 phones? and it works in my wife's Ford Escape. Just really weird.
That's what I was thinking, too.
  • Have you tried re-pairing the Android 10 phones to the Ranger? Delete those phones from the Ranger's list of paired devices first.
  • I would also look at each phone's settings for Bluetooth and for battery or energy saver options. Turn off or reduce settings.
  • Apps that I want to refresh while moving (Google Maps, iTunes, TuneIn) I set to use cellular data if no wifi on my iPhone (I'm assuming Android has a similar option)
  • Does it drop while using all apps or just one or two? maybe try deleting the suspect apps and re-installing.
  • Are you using the Ranger's USB port for charging while on Bluetooth? Might be causing a conflict between trying to interface with a usb connected device while on Bluetooth or vice versa.

I am experiencing this same issue on Android 10 when driving slow or stopped with intermittent audio cutouts on Spotify. I have Spotify in offline mode and disabled battery optimization. This only happens in the truck and not when streaming Spotify from the phone to other bluetooth speakers and devices.

Initially I thought it might be related to auto stop/start but still does it when disabled. It always seems to happen when shifting into reverse when the backup camera turns on. Very annoying. Personally I think it's an issue on the Sync 3 side.

Someone on another forum said that if they disabled bluetooth on the phone, then reconnected, it would fix it for that session, but I haven't tried. If it works, then you could use MacroDroid to automate the process.

I started to notice similar in my truck with my OnePlus 7 Pro and Android 10, but I haven't dug into it yet since it's rare I use the bluetooth, I'm always plugged in using Android Auto. I may have to do some digging though.

Thanks, I'll test this out for a while and report back

My phone is a OnePlus 6T. I'm rooted running the latest OxygenOS 10.3.1, Omega kernel and xXX NoLimits 9.5 Magisk module. The 10.3.1 release did help somewhat with some battery issues but its not as stable as Android 9.

So far my BT issues are only with the truck.

Though I'm not an Android person it sounds like the their is a problem in the Sync 3 software on the truck and Ver. 10 of OS since it seems that ver 10 works on other except the Ranger.

 Turning BT off and on again does appear to be working but I want to do some longer term research before confirming this always works.

I played around with Android Auto a bit but have to say I much prefer Sync. Also, I could not get Viper4Arise to work over USB on AA but works perfectly over BT. Viper really helps counter the B&O signal processing and low-end roll off.
