I found this a few weeks ago, did it, and couldn't be happier. Works great.

Interesting solution. If you don't trim off those hanging chain ends, I'd expect that would rattle quite a bit. Do you find it rattles when driving? That is the only concern I'd have with doing that, otherwise it is a very ingenious, simple solution.

Great Idea!! If you're alittle OCD like me - Spray the chain with PlastiDip. Problem solved :)

I just burned through a hundred bucks in Ford Pass points getting the 2 lost tie downs. If I'm going to loose the points by not using them...I'd rather get the tie downs.
I can't believe it.
I just tried to install the 2 tie downs, with the Ford bolts, and I can't tightened them down. It must take a hell of a wrench to seat these things. I used a hammer drill and only got about halfway. It'll be a trip to Atlanta for help with the kid...again! LOL...dam.

Once I cleaned out bolt holes from the excess spray from the bed liner with a tap (from a tap and die set) my bolts installed with no problem.

LOL...I was gonna try that. But I was hoping the bolt would do that for me. It'll take a little more work. Thanks.

Hi Folks,

You can make a poor man's tap using a old bolt of the correct thread and diameter. Take a V file and file two groove in the bolt deeper at the start and less further up by holding the file at an angle for each groove....then take it slow and extract to clean out the grooves frequently....slow, but it will work most of the time to clean out clogged or damaged threaded holes. works on spark plug holes as well....just fill the grooves with grease to catch any shavings...

If you're cheap like me this is under $20 for four. Amazon and Ace hardware. Looks like a robot face.

I'll be doing the same thing. The price ford wants for the correct ones is insane. Do you happen to remember the bolt size/pitch?

Tightening the chain adds shear to the bed tie down bolts, which is then magnified by adding the cross bed tie. There is a demonstration in basic college statics class where the professor bets he can defeat the entire class in a tug of war. One end of a rope is tied to a fixed object, the students pull on the other end. The prof then pulls laterally on the middle of the rope winning the bet.

That is why I like my rope. No direct pull from corner to corner except thru my cargo net. Depending on load I will double up 5in hooks using the factory hooks on the corners to raise the net using either the net hooks or maybe one 5in hook for other connections. Also it gives me connections front & rear.

Hi Steve,

Got a link? Most of the threaded holes in the bed are M8x1.25 or M6x1.00

Has anyone moved or attached new tie downs in the rear of the bed? I can't hardly reach the factory loication.
I had some leftover Ratchet strap that I leave looped in mine. I plan to lengthen the ones in the mid and front of the bed and velcro them up near the bed top so I can reach in without crawling in.

Hi Folks,

Just installed a few minutes ago. Threads in the location shown for upper and lower hole are M8x1.25. Had to drill out one hole caked with spray-in liner using a 17/64 drill bit before I could clean up the hole with my M8x1.25 tap.

best,
