They are indeed beautiful magnificent creatures. I have a federal permit that allows me to rescue and transport eagles, owls, and hawks to a federally licensed rehab center. I didn’t realize how huge and powerful they are until I started handling them. To see one in the wild is amazing, to handle one is incredible, and to free release one after rehab is just awesome to see.

Had a hawk land on my neighbors garbage can. Right after taking the picture he took off and grabbed another small bird that was flying by. I knew they were quick but man he took off like a rocket and tagged that bird like he was on nitrous. 🚀

A little tough to tell but might be a Coopers Hawk. We have them here and they love catching the mourning doves.

I've seen them dive by my bird feeder 8' off the ground (with roof overhang) snatching the bird off the tray never slowing down. It is literally a blur, and the victim never sees what hit him. I have 3 feeders in the back yard and a pair of hawks are always nearby at feeding time, And it not just birds, they flew under a 6" high steel ramp 6' wide, came out the other side with a rabbit that thought it was safe!

They are amazing to watch. And the crows hate them!

It is amazing how fast they move and can strike in seconds. One minute he's sitting there then next he's gone and you saw a few feathers floating by. lol I wanted to put a couple bird feeders up here but after checking around it's not a great idea. I guess a few had done it and they ended up with roof rats! Those nasty things come and feed on all the seeds on the ground then move onto your house next so that put the squash on that plan. I remember the house inspector saying the attic was nice and clean and no sign of droppings up there so no sense in inviting trouble

I used to live in an apartment with a huge pigeon problem, but for a couple of years there were some hawks in the nearby woods and the pigeons were decidedly less of an issue. Then the hawks disappeared (relocated, I hope) and the damn pigeons came back with a vengeance.
