I have a 2022 Ford ranger lariat with tremmor package does anybody know where the backup key slot is? Apparently every Ford vehicle has a back up key slot Where youmInsert the key when the engine won’t start. Also there is a process where you place both keys in the backup slot and the factory code Will appear on the dashboard. I bought my ranger used and no factory code was provided and without the factory code I can not program the door panel with a code that can be used when keys are lost. Thank you.

From other posts on here about the keypad entry - it is completely separate from the fob codes.
It is supposed to be on a card - it may be with the owners manual - witch also points out the backup key location - yes it is in the rear of the cup holder

The door panel/keypad recovery code process does not work on the Ranger as with other Fords. This is due to the fact that the keypad functions as an add-on (even if it was factory installed).

I don’t have a link handy but the online version of the Ranger Owner’s Manual has a picture of the location: It’s in one of the cup holders, there’s a logo embossed in the plastic. Shape just perfectly fits the fob when aligned front to back.

Bad news is that I was in the same situation and tried that two-key recovery procedure 10 different ways and never had any luck, probably for the reasons stated above. If you find another solution I’m very interested to hear about it.

5 pages in this thread, perhaps something useful.

External keypad.
Thanks, but the discussion in that thread doesn’t address the question in this one. They’re trying to add on a new keypad where they have all the original code sheets. This question is about 2nd owners who didn’t get those code sheets and are trying to recovery the code.

Ref: This recent thread for same situation.
I posted some PDF's in this thread, but it still boils down to, if you do not have the card that the master code is on, either replace the keypad or see if dealer can retrieve it with the Vin# lookup.
I do not have the keypad, so I am not sure if Forscan would display that information.
The keypad entry is not in the service manuals and like another post, even though it is installed at factory level, it is considered aftermarket, accessary.

But if it helps

I had a similar situation with a chipped key for a used car I had purchased. Tried to contact the original owner because I did not want to spent $250 for a new key if the original owner had the second key that was now no longer of use to him. BTW, it's not the key that is programmed, the ECU is taught to recognize that particular key's chip. Ford has 8 or 10 "slots" for that purpose. Once filled the dealer has to clear and start over.

Using your VIN, your dealer can locate the selling dealer. Your best bet is to then contact that selling dealer and have them contact the original owner (privacy issues forbid the dealer from providing the name of the original purchaser, nor does Ford keep it) and ask if they have the card or remember the key pad combo, or one they programmed. The selling dealer will have a finance section or person, and since most vehicles are financed, that person is the best person to work with at the dealership. Secondary would be the service department. Good luck.

No card no luck. Since you bought it used and the part is $100ish the dealer should get you a new pad and install it. If they aren’t a ford dealer a check for $150 would cover most of the cost.
