Oh, so you doing studs instead of hidden nuts. You added aluminum flat stock to make some large washers. I like that idea!
Yes, and I put circlip retainers on the bolt/studs to make sure they dont fall back in. lol

BTW, the brace is steel not aluminum. (magnet stuck to it)
Zinc coated steel flat bar iirc.

Also, this is the magnetic pickup tool I used:
(it helped alot esp when trying to insert the bolts in)

How wide are your flats?? And why not put nuts on them, instead of the studs? (really just bolts of course) Seems you'd have a cleaner look in the box and the nuts would be less tall getting them installed.

I know it's not sexy at all, but I just use a rachet strap. I wrap a couple or three winds around my shovel and axe handles, with the strap hooks in the front and rear tie down loops. I do like KnightRanger's system, though!

(The fire extinguisher carrier is bolted to a sheet of 5/8 ply painted black that I migrated from my Titan. Axe, shovel, and 20 pound extinguisher are required by work, extinguisher too tall to sit upright under a tonneau cover...)

I believe they’re 1-3/8” zinc steel flat bars.
Also, my DIY is mostly a suggestion and to give ppl an idea.
You always have a choice on how you mount it and materials to use.

It was just easier for me to do it this way.
(I can remove and re-mount my panels as needed)
