I looked through the forum a bit, but didn't see what I was looking for. Does anyone have any ideas for a bed mount for an axe/shovel and maybe for recovery boards? I'd really rather not drill into the bed if at all possible, but it may be unavoidable. In that case the most minimal modifications would be preferred.

I found some bedside racking from: https://www.builtrightind.com/ but it doesn't look like they have anything for the ranger.

There's a DIY thread that touched on mounting such here

Also seen a few build threads where they have commercial mounting, you could ask @Msfitoy he's rather involved in building an overlander and has quite-a-bit of background research. He may have some good leads for you.

Good luck.

The response I received from Built-Right Industries:

"
We are actually putting the final touches on the Ranger bedside rack design as we speak. They will be moving into production here shortly and we are hoping to have them available by the end of the year. I have added you to an "interested" list and will shoot you guys email updates as we hit milestones with the product. In the meantime, let me know if there is anything else we can help you with.

So I guess I'll wait for this to come out.

In the meantime I might take a few 2x4's and just mount my stuff all together so it won't rattle around so much in the bed and get jumbled.

I've been looking at the Yakima HD bed rack, and they have an axe/paddle mount, that I think will work.

We are also looking for an axe, digging bar and/or mini shovel mounts for our ranger's box. Any of them..

A long shovel mounted to the RTT load bars...good for digging out of sand dunes and putting out camp fires...I prefer to store axes and other tools inside...?

I had their panels on my previous truck.(F150 Rap)
They’re awesome...but I‘m still waiting for them to make one for the Ranger.

I made a DIY for mine (FOD post link above) that is less impact on the bed, had to drill 2holes each side, but can be removed or taken down easily.

If you dont want to drill...you can utillize the 2 oem cargo tie down holes in the rear and use M8 1.25 bolts to secure your mounts. I prefer to use either wood or HDPE panels so I can easily mount quick fists clamps.

The pics shows my old Builtright setup on my Raptor, and my DIY setup on my Ranger for comparison.

I eat and breath the polys, HDPE and ABS. Love that stuff! This is a "shoe" on a snow grooming implement made from 3/8th thick HDPE

Cool! I cant wait to see what you come up with. :)
I have done some hdpe and Kydex diy but mostly for knife sheath and survival prepper items. (but rarely thermoform)
Did you use heatgun?

Yes, two 1500 watt heat guns to do this bend. One is below the steel pad warming it while the other is blowing down on the plastic sheet.

So are these oval holes in the box wall with rubber plus in them, where you put nuts in?? If so, how?

I used these metal brace together with x2 M8 1.25x40mm nuts.
You might need longer screws, depending on what material you want to use for panels.
3M strips and A magnetic flexible pickup tool helps when inserting and positioning the brace and bolts.

Re: backing plates
The metal brace is steel, I got them years ago from a hardware store.
They’re about 1/8 or 1/6 thick iirc. (cut them in like 3.5-4” length each).

You can defer to my DIY link above for more reference and pics.

Oh, so you doing studs instead of hidden nuts. You added aluminum flat stock to make some large washers. I like that idea!
