I've had my truck for a week and have not noticed it shutting off at all when I stop. I know some of you would think that's a blessing but I want to make sure it's working correctly. Is there a way to "test" it besides stopping? Thanks.

There's a list of reasons why the system doesn't activate. I'm guessing with your location you're ambient temperature isn't high enough for the system to shut the engine off. In the instrument cluster you should be able to navigate to the Fuel Economy section and scroll to the auto start stop, it will display the reason it's not shutting off while you're stopped in drive with your foot on the brake pedal.

It has been a tad chilly here. I'll check it out the Fuel economy menu.

OK, I probably haven't met all those requirements.

MIne was saying "Low Temps" and we been cold the past few days, today it was above 20˚ and then the Auto Stop/start works.

You should see the status of it on your dash under Fuel Econo menu,

I've noticed that even if it is cold out, below 20, it'll still kick in after you've been driving for awhile (over 30-40mins usually). The engine and cabin are plenty warm by then and can survive a little shut off at a stop light here and there by then. For me, on my way to and from work, it hasn't activated in over a month. But if I drive around town after work for errands and what-not, then usually by the last couple stoplights on the way home it'll engage. That might be a good test if you want to actually experience it happening.

Also, welcome to the club of "people who actually like the auto start/stop". We're small, but we're mighty. haha

Enabling Auto-Start-Stop The system is automatically enabled every time you start your vehicle if the following conditions are met: • The Auto-Start-Stop button is not pressed (not illuminated). • Your vehicle exceeds an initial speed of 3 mph (5 km/h) after you have initially started the vehicle. • Your vehicle is stopped. • Your foot is on the brake pedal. • The transmission is in drive (D). • The driver's door is closed. • There is adequate brake vacuum. • The interior compartment has been cooled or warmed to an acceptable level. • The front windshield defroster is off. • The steering wheel is not turned rapidly or is not at a sharp angle. • The vehicle is not on a steep road grade. • The battery is within optimal operating conditions (battery state of charge and temperature in range). • The engine coolant is at operating temperature. • Elevation is below approximately 10,000 ft (3,050 m). • Ambient temperature is moderate. The green Auto-Start-Stop indicator light on the instrument cluster will illuminate to indicate when the automatic engine stop occurs.

If the instrument cluster is equipped with a grey Auto-Start-Stop indicator light, it is illuminated when automatic engine stop is not available due to one of the above noted conditions not being met.
All these conditions are ideal for this system to operate for my driving here in Honolulu. When I was employed, my daily commute sometimes would typically find me in stop and go traffic for 1- 1 1/2 hours. I'm wondering how many times the auto start/stop (ASS) system would engage during both AM and PM drive cycles?
Also, wondering what upgrades Ford has done to the starter to compensate for the tremendous increase in the amount of work it needs to perform?
Added more windings to the field coil? Doubled the solenoid electrical contact area? Fitted a severe duty starter drive?
When my 2020 arrives next month, my very first foray into Forscan re-programming will be to disable the "ASS", permanently.
For what it is worth, my '00 SuperCab with the 4.0 OHV motor and 90K miles still has its original starter.

My trips are short, so yeah maybe the engine hasn't really warmed up then.

I believe if you have your defroster on the auto stop and start is disabled

It took me about a month to learn and get used to the behavior of the auto-off. Its behavior is relatively consistent once you understand its parameters, like engine being warm and the difference between outside and cabin temperature. When outside temps dropped into the 20s, I noticed that it did not shut off very much.

I hate this "feature" with a passion. To me it just reeks of big brother watching me. I am learning to hit the button with the same motion down from turning the key. Just automatically disable that crap with the same motion to reach up and turn the key to start; reach down from key and hit the button. When I can figure out how to turn that off in forscan it will be done. Prolly ruin starters quickly in rapid succession. Incredibly stupid idea. In fact I wish ford would still offer manual transmissions in their trucks. I must be a throwback to older better times I guess. But I still love my new Ranger. Kick-ass little truck.

In the mean time just get a cheap LED night light and plug it into the 110v in the back seat to disable it.
