we had this wear talk in a different thread, where RPM was the discussion point.
it had to do with wear on your engine in D vs S.
obviously your vehicle runs at a different RPM, thereby adding wear to your engine.
That's a no brainer to comprehend.
Yet, the masses literally proclaimed on their pulpit that it was negligible wear.
I guess if we did the math we would find the answer. lets just say 100000miles at 1000rpm difference at 60 mph for its life....that's a lot of strokes only matched by a young man and his late night internet use.
With that same reasoning of that group....ASS use should be negligible as well.
And I am sure Ford Engineers are aware and compensated for that in some way
TL,DR ... Bottom line (hehe , "bottom") the more you use your ass , the more your ring will wear...

Didn't mean YOU were TLDR , this time,

The only real answer to this theory is time. After we have owned these and get them to 100+K mileage in all theaters of use will we know the truths. Those that use ASS all the time and those that refuse to use it. It will be black and white I would think “if” this is really a problem.

Our own resident expert has said many times these trucks during development go through a mountain of testing that really stresses all systems to see where improvements or defects are. Seriously, something like this would have displayed its own problematic behaviors long ago.

And after all this testing, we have vans that dump water into the air cleaner when it rains (Transit), vans with driveshafts that have to be redesigned (Transit), and Rangers with driveshaft problems, seatbelts that "might fail", and all the other assorted problems that we see here in the forum.

Testing will find the problems they were designed to find, and occasionally find others not foreseen. I used to design production tests, so I know a few things about that area.

ASS use *will* cause more wear on the starter and battery, the only unanswered question is how much, and will it matter in the expected lifetime of the vehicle.

I heard all that from my cousins, girlfriends, step-fathers uncle.
I've heard of that guy.

Smart dude.

We should make a consolidated sticky thread for oil dilution chicken littles and topics of this nature.

It would be great, like the National Enquirer news thread of the forum.

Respect for the old school types, so good point there. The shop I trust to touch my vehicles is full of them. You can tell things are right when you walk in and three old timers are almost always sitting around with a coffee mug bullshitting with the desk guy (who is a retired wrench turner).

They care. My Ford dealer and their mechanics.... Ehhh...
Truly real mechanics are rare these days. Technicians can replace the parts that the computer says are bad. But, if troubleshooting is needed we're shit out of luck. It goes like this, "Can you tell my what was wrong? No sir, I replaced so many parts I couldn't tell you which one was the problem".

Disclaimer before someone goes spastic over the above. Things are much easier these days due to improvements in technology. But, it's not everything when it comes to moving parts that can wear out.

Don't forget to add thumbnail picture previews of a female with erect nipples in a tank top, but when you click it you get an article on the benefits of pooping once a day with a photo of an old man on the pot.

To add to that, how is it different from when its been off for an hour, or overnight?
Darn you for making me think.

Temperature(s), oil runoff, compression leak(s), EGR fumes...
