Anyone tried using a regular funnel instead of factory one for refueling from a gas can?

As the title says has anyone usedx a regular funnel instead of the factory one for refueling from a gas can. If so what kind did you use as I tried a plastic transmission one and I could not get it to go in enough to por gas into the filler neck. Thanks for any replies.

I accidentally used a regular funnel and gas spilled everywhere. I ordered an extra fuel filler which will fit Rangers as a backup for the one that comes with the truck

I have tried in the past with my previous vehicle (F150). It did not go so well. There is something about the length and diameter of the nozzle holding the mechanical door open without popping out. I ended up using my wife's explorer to do the job.

The funnel needs to be the same diameter on the end going into the tank in order to release the two latches so the inner door will open.

I ordered an extra factory funnel and jammed a cut off transmission funnel in it

I have the same one. It works better than the small ones, which limit the flow rate due to their smaller reservoir cup.

i made the mistake of putting a the bottle of octane booster in the cap less thing.... fit great i just sorta pushed it in. nothing spilled. getting it out was not fun or easy. from then on i keep the factory funnel handy. factory funnel, it sorta looks like one of those urinal devices for girls just not pink lol.

This spout fits most gas cans and works on my Ranger just fine, I also added a vent w/cap on the can to speed up fuel flow, can empty a 5 gallon can in 30 seconds.
