Anyone NOT have problems with the Ranger?

When you join a forum for any vehicle, you will always only hear about problems. No one joins a forum to say "I haven't had any problems, my truck works great". That being said, I'm at 48000 miles and I've only had a MAF sensor fail. Knock on wood. I'm fairly built, so I put more stress on my truck than most.

This is true but you can tell the quality of a vehicle by the types of issues people are posting about. The Subaru Outback forums mostly complain about speaker quality, a slow UI, and a squeaky roof rack. You come in here and it's like "I dropped my tranny" or "My oil is half gasoline!" or "My HVAC is stuck on heat and it's a $3,000 fix" or "Water got in spark plug well #1 and I had an engine misfire".

2019 with 118K miles...Everything's about perfect...except...the transmission's has a 95K mile life span...get your ESP or start saving...

There have been other threads on here with the same question (I'm too lazy too search). I'm coming up on 5 years with mine - 45k miles and I've had zero issues. Its been a great truck, doing everything I've asked of it - and then some.

I am a member of Miata.net, The CX-5 Forum, the Maxima Forum, and several Ranger 4G forums. In all those years I have only reported issues on this forum, because I have only had serious issues with my 5G Ranger.

Maybe I am an outlier... maybe not. I have had no problems with my 1993 Miata 67K miles, my 2003 Maxima 120K miles, my Mazda CX-5 5K miles, and none on my 2005 Ranger until I reached 155K miles.

I have had more issues - several very serious, with my 2020 Ranger, than with all the other above vehicles combined. I have spent more $$ on correcting or trying to avoid issues that I know are coming as the symptoms are already showing themselves, than on all the other vehicles combined.

I have never posted a problem report on any of my previous vehicles on any of those other forums. I have posted here a great deal about the weaknesses and problems I have had with my 2020 Ranger, and how I corrected them. I have sought out advice and rec'd it. The members here are great.

But let me be brutally blunt. The Transmission, Driveshaft, Shocks, Charging System (BMS), Fan Clutch, and Climate Air delivery systems in my 2020 Ranger are poorly implemented and SUCK.

I have corrected the issues with the driveshaft, shocks and BMS Charging system. The Climate system and Transmission are both showing signs / symptoms of imminent failure. I am working to minimize the transmission problems, but the jury is still out.

This is the first vehicle that I have purchased an extended warranty on. I previously never felt the need.

Simply stated, pulling out the entire dash to replace the air distribution system, or having the transmission replaced/rebuilt is not normal. And both are very expensive repairs.

If the electric fan clutch fails, it will rip out the electrical sensor cable causing shorts and disabling multiple (6?) unrelated systems (Including Oil Pressure control) that are fused to the same power feed, resulting in ~$500+ damage. It will strand you on the road. Ford has corrected this in the 6G Ranger. The fan is now electric.

Every Ranger built through mid 2020 has a defective Air distribution system in it.

Every Ranger built through mid 2023 (according to the latest TSB) has a defective CDF Drum in the transmission that will result in a transmission overhaul or replacement. The good news is that the transmission techs are getting a boatload of experience on repairing them. So the repair will probably be done right. The bad news is the cost to repair both if out of warranty is ~$9K - $10K. $3K for the AC issue, and $6K for the transmission.

Both are going to fail prematurely. My 2020 Ranger has 20K miles on it. The transmission has been acting up since 5K miles. And the warped Plenum door issue has just begun to rear it ugly head. I hear the click click click of the time bomb under the dash.

In every vehicle that I have ever owned, I could simply start it up and drive away. In my 2020 Ranger I have to allow it to warm up or the transmission shifts are very slow and sluggish, as in 5 seconds to shift from one gear to the next! The last time I drove it I could actually hear the shift solenoids energize and slowly activate. A couple of seconds later the shift would complete. This is not normal! All my autos are garaged. It is not as if the Ranger sits in sub zero temps.

So I guess people do come to forums to complain, but sometimes, SOMETIMES, those complaints are valid. And most would not be raising issues or asking for help if Quality was truly Job 1 at FoMoCo.

Ford is profusely bleeding cash repairing poorly implemented products under warranty. They know they have quality issues that need to be addressed.

Mines a 2023 XLT scab with a little over 6k miles. Bought almost a year ago (took delivery Feb 20th 2023) and I actually have its first scheduled service tomorrow lol. No mechanical issues so far.

2019 XL/STX with 42,000 miles. Only problem was battery replacement under warranty. Outstanding so far, including a 7,000 mile round trip CA to AK.

Just hit 40k on my 2019 XLT FX4. Only issue was having the windshield delaminating but it was fixed under warranty. My local dealership has been really good.

I read all the messages of people having all kinds of problems with their ranger. Really discouraging. I have a 2020 Ranger XLT with 17k on it,

Anyone got a few miles on theirs without problems?

As a preventative measure I installed a tailgate damper and so far no issues
