Anyone ever gone on a cruise before?

We're leaving for a 5 day cruise going to costa maya and cozumel in late may and I've never done such a thing. We're going with royal Caribbean in an interior room with a virtual balcony whatever that means.

I went on one years back. Me personally I didn't care for it but I know many who just love them and go often. I'm not the type that likes to be stuck on a large floating petri dish in the middle of nowhere. ?

Plus I don't like schedules as my whole life/career was one big schedule so when we travel I like to do what I want, when I want and go off the beaten path. Hopefully you enjoy it and like I said I know many who just love them and go every year. Enjoy your trip, it's better than working!

I'm not big on schedules either, hopefully it won't be too awful, I definitely purchased the alcohol package so at the bare minimum I'll at least get to enjoy scotch watching the sunset.

*reason for the bold text*
I'm one of the rare people who love what they do for a living, I work for local government in the parks department and I thoroughly enjoy keeping our parks safe, clean and mowed for the little ones

That's a smart move getting the alcohol package because you can/will drink A LOT! It's so easy too because you just give them your room card and after a week you lose tract of what it is until you get the bill at the end. :surprised: The food is really good too! You will enjoy all the different restaurants and little areas like the pizza bar which was nice when you get the late night muchies. I didn't have a bad time (it was really fun!) it's just something I see myself doing again unless it's an Alaskan cruise which I've heard is a must.

Been on 2 cruises with RC, loved it.
Buy the drink package, (you did)
You pay for internet service if you want it.
You can buy smokes and liquor at half the price when you hit international water.
Make copies of your passport and carry those with you.
When you get ready to get on, you link a credit card to a card they will give you as you get on. That is how you pay for everything on the ship and get in your room.
As big as the ships are, they run them pretty efferent, never really had to wait for anything.
Tip your housekeeper well. They work their asses off. All the people on the ship do.
We had a little guy from Malaysia as our housekeeper on the last cruise. My GF and I always made our beds, kept the room up. That man was always there twice a day to see if we needed anything or to give the room once over.
Have fun

We have been on 4. 3 Royal Caribbean and one Carnival. Loved them all but the RC were the best for us. The best one was on a new RC ship where we bought the cheapest inside cabin and were upgraded to the second best cabin on the ship that was humongous with a giant balcony when we boarded. Most cruises are not full and we have always been upgraded to a better cabin when boarding. Non stop entertainment and things to try with crazy amounts of good food. Like taking your hotel room with you from port to port and the staff will treat you like royalty . You will make many new friends. Have fun.

There is nothing about a cruise that appeals to me. It gives me anxiety just thinking about being trapped in a floating hotel with a crowd of people that that I can’t get away from when I want. I prefer to pick a location and plan the stay on my terms.

I told the wife we should go on a cruise......she told me she can't swim.......I told her she should probly stay on the boat then! She didn't find any humor in that and we didn't ever go!

Hey William,

I’ve been on a couple in the Caribbean - they were corporate conventions - once on Princess and once on Royal Caribbean. Lots of great food, everywhere, anytime. ?

If you’ve ever been to a Sandals all-inclusive resort, it’s a lot like that except on a floating resort. They do their best to keep you entertained and well fed. Purchasing the booze package was a good idea as Dave said.

The one difference with the convention cruise was that we didn’t have assigned seating in the dining room, so we could sit wherever we wanted to and with anyone we wanted to.

Tip - if you‘re going to the Casino: The on-board Casino operates while at sea, in non-jurisdictional waters. Table games are no different than regular casinos but the probability of winning top prizes and the theoretical payout percentages for their slot machines and video poker games will not be like they would be in land-based jurisdictions at home.

Here's a pic from one of our cruises going out the NY harbor to Bermuda. We keep this one in our hearts as it was the last view we had of the twin towers before 9/11.

You should get some great shots I hope you share.

I considered asking to upgrade to a balcony room but neither of us know how we'll do with sea sickness and I've heard the interior cabins are the most stable.

We decided to take 50$ each go gamble with and slots are my goto, sounds like I should just keep the $50 and put it towards truck stuff

We haven't looked into any of the excursions yet, we both really just want to park our hind ends under an umbrella on a beach somewhere.
