To hear of Ranger owners that have incredible high mileage during my tenure at the helm of Vehicle Engineering makes me proud. No accolades from the press can do as much as to know the number of folks that loved their old previous generation Ranger... It makes this "old fart,s" day!

My 1996 Ranger that I traded in towards my 2019 Ranger had over 300K miles. :sunglasses:

I do, however, disagree with this. That could be said for almost any car - the number of parts and labor that goes into assembly is about the same for any car/truck.
No, you can tell the difference on an econobox. The ridgeline is roughly in line with the features and quality of the other trucks, so it's roughly in line with the price. The only way to dramatically lower the price would be to go full ghetto on the interior and start ripping out features. (They probably can't do some of the other things that are normal to hit a lower price, like having a cheap low-end engine, etc., because they aren't doing enough volume to justify a bunch of options like that.)

That doesn't mean that a small car should cost the same as a big car. The needs that you mentioned that are perfect for the Ridgeline is pretty niche and a small market imo, hence the lackluster Ridgeline sales.
Yeah, people interested in buying a ridgeline seem to buy a ridgeline already. People who aren't interested in buying a ridgeline probably will never buy a ridgeline, either because it won't meet their needs or because they hate it for aesthetic reasons. It isn't clear to me how changing the price would fundamentally change that. If they go down-market they'd probably pick up some bargain shoppers but lose some people over whatever they cut to hit the new price target.

If Honda tried to appeal to a larger market of people, they should lower the price.
Heh, it's like I'm having the same conversation in two different threads. Honda seems reasonably happy to sell a certain number of ridgelines at a certain price. They're never going to be the segment leader, but they make enough money modifying a shared platform to justify the production. Why would they dramatically cut their margins to sell more (potentially losing money?) just to bring themselves into a less distant 5th place? As it stands they sold 9% more in 2019 than they did in 2018, so they seem healthy. I don't see them doubling their sales at any price, meaning they won't even hit frontier numbers. Doesn't it make more sense for them to take the money they're making selling to the people who want that product than killing that product to maybe climb the leaderboard with some other product?

For what I really use a truck for the Ridgeline would have been fine. For what I want to (someday) use the truck for the Ranger was what I wanted.

Wow - all of this because I called the new Ridgeline a El Camino
Don't worry, this is far from the first time a thread on this forum has been completely derailed just because the Ridgeline got brought up. Crazy how polarizing that vehicle is.

More so the Tacoma's. There are a lot of us here who came from them (3rd gen) who were less than satisfied.:puke:

I believe Honda would agree - your go to there webpages and there is a group for SUV’s and another for minivan’s & truck

The ONLY rankings that count for our truck are real owners who make the decisions with their pocketbooks.
I usually don't agree with this. Once you've paid big bucks for something, you tend to bias your opinion of it... I was surprised by the Edmunds thing too. It was all the comparison ratings by people who had not bought yet that interested me.
