If you just need an oil change, what’s the difference between one of these places vs the dealership? Both have their top brass in the pit…. The dealership is farther away, charges more, takes longer, and often requires an appointment. I can see the popularity of these places, only for oil and to fill the windshield washer fluid.
I have heard may more instances of the quick 15 minute places not tightening the filter, drain plug, or forgetting to put oil in way more times than a dealership. Like 75 to 1.
I like my odds in my garage much better. That’s why I change my own oil in my garage where the odds of a screwup are way less.

I hear ya. I wonder what the ratio of oil changes is between the two?
I live in a condo and while I can get away with some things, they definitely would take issue with me changing my oil. If you have to take it somewhere…

i knew a guy that worked for walmart in the tire lube express. he only stayed a month. they expected him to change oil and filter check other fluids in 8 -15 mins per car. it takes me that long to get the oil all drained out. factor in that he was getting paid just above min wage and these cars were coming in off the street hot and nasty. under those conditions i am sure mistakes could be easily made and overlooked.
i change my own.

Got this in the mail yesterday. These quick lube joints must be hurting for business. Stay in your car & see it all it says. In about 15 mins. Not for me. No way ,no how.:crying:
I don't know... they been around here for 15 to 20 years... used them many a time without issue. Now it was never in 15 mins but under 30.

She's giving him a second chance! Wait till around midnight and text her the tire pressure, but in a sexy way.

I know quick lubes have been around for many years, but this is the first time I have seen them advertise wait in your car.

the discount tire stores in my area did wait in your car service for a short time here during one of the pandemic peaks. i liked it. i got to sit in the truck and relax while they knocked out the work. made me feel special like a guy in a limo lol. i could see liability being insane for customers in the shop. but if the customer stays in the car and never gets out?

We have them. I don't use them.

I worked for Walmart changing oil back in 2001 on the weekends when I was brand new to the Army and had a kid, extra cash was nice. I treated each car like my own but holy crap the stuff I saw others do. Not checking oil levels, not letting them drain all the way, forgetting to use a wrench on the drain. I know of that location in Colorado buying one person a "new" motor because of a double oil filter gasket caused leak/engine locking up.

I just do my own oil changes because of that sort of crap.

Hi Patrick,

First...thank you for your Service! I have always done my own oil changes until recently when medical issues preclude much of my working on my own vehicle. I fear the half assed, I don't care attitude of garages and oil change places...but I have to deal with the consequences now. I will always attempt to change the Ranger, but the Nautilus....different story as I cannot get under the damn CUV...and I am beyond jacking the car up and worm crawling under the car...

best,
Phil

I do not look forward to the day my knees and back (thanks Army) stop me from doing that. I do have one shop I semitrust. First clue they are a bit more old school. The group of older gentlemen that hang out having coffee almost everytime I do go see them for something I can't do.

We don't have a Valvoline around here, but we have the Take 5 Oil places all over my town. I've used one of them for my old Dodge, my dad's Fusion, and my sister has taken her Dakota there. They've never missed anything, always walk us through resetting the oil life indicator, let you visually check the oil level yourself (They bring the dipstick around to the window), and even allow you to see the air filter before trying to sell you a new one. I don't take my ranger there because I still have the service plan from the dealership, but when that runs out, I'll probably take it there, too, since I don't have the space where I live to change my oil. (I tried once, but since I only have a single space, I almost got run over when the neighbor came home and didn't see me. Also had another neighbor complain to the HOA. They thought I was stealing catalytic converters.)

A couple of buddies and I worked at a jiffy lube in high school. Our boss was a meth addict and the regional manager(married) was screwing around with her. The amount of bs we had to put up with there, a few kids running the show with no idea where management was.
