There was an "incident " with my phone and I can't get back on as NotBudule anymore ?, sadly ... and in Budule's defense, none of the versions has been on at the same time arguing with each other , like in my head...
Sorry to hear of your phone incident and good luck with your head. ;)

It will not just slide in, line it up streight and give it a couple of good wacks with a dead blow or small sledge with a block of wood so you don't jack up the threads and it should pop in..

Good Luck! worst case complete axles are ~$150 - cheaper than a tow and repair bill. The shaft pops out of the housing with a c-clip (a couple of large pry bars will get it. There is a PDF somewhere on here, I will see if I can find it.

This PDF shows prying it out with large prybars. Hope that helps!

Hey LB,

Not sure if I thanked you for the PDF, but thank you again because i can't thank you enough. I was curious there is a seal at the differential where the axle slides in and there is apparently a install/removal pdf on this seal as well. Any chance you can get a hold of that as well?

Here is a Great Ref video for a pulled CV issue, scroll towards the end of the video, ironically, he hits on the scenario of pulling it out by accident at the 7:05 mark

Why Does My Car Axle Click? Diagnosing and Explaining Axle Noises (youtube.com)

The positioning of the bearings is a HUGE key to getting it in, so a complete OPPISITE of what you would most likely think to position them, so this is a GREAT reference video.
For the few in my career that I have had to do this, I just got lucky on the vise, I guess. I might have moved them around but if I did it was pure luck I moved them to the correct position.

Sorry for the late reply I had another fiasco with tires after this finally she runs nice and smooth with my RTR EVOs and new gen BFGoodwrich KO3s.

So far the CV Axle is dry and I am thankful. I thought I dug myself a real deep hole this time. I have done lots of work on my 90 Mustang and there was always something new I had to learn when i got into a job especially suspension, but it wasn't my daily driver either and road blocks were ok. This time its 4X4 and a big learning curve.

thanks everyone for input this forum saved me!

I had an alignment shop install mine (after trying and failing to do it myself) and they somehow hyperextended the left side inner CV and after three days it literally exploded. Torn boot and ball bearings all over the street in front of my house. Called AAA to flat-bed it back to the shop. You don't have a lot to stand on when it comes to modifying stuff so we settled on me paying for the axle shaft and they'd install it no charge.

Ouch... Yeah i couldn't believe it Ford removal instructions were literally to use a "crow bar" believe it or not the axle popped out from the differential no problem at the cost of a little nick in the aluminum diff housing. Yes I used a plastic block to protect it but it slipped and my knuckles paid for it.
