It's incidents like this that I bought the superbumper when I had my Ranger. It is now on the rear of my Explorer.
This is my small insurance...hopefully it'll transmit damages to the tow bar before the frame/body...

CarStar, I got a text every day, a phone call every other day it was crazy service and they fixed a few nicks that were not even close to where the guy hit me
Statefarm was his insurance company they were great too, I was back in my truck one week from the hit, gave me a rental that made me want my truck back even more LOL
see the R in Ranger? they left a few drips of wax I had to clean off LOL

Part sales are a cash cow for auto mfgrs. I've often pondered the cost of rebuilding an entire vehicle from the OEM parts. ...makes my head hurt.

Exactly why I purchased mine. My custom tailgate took too much time and money to build to have it damaged by some bonehead on his phone. Plus I have heard it will take out his radiator and transmission cooler. Lesson learned!

Just got my Rhino step/guard. Cheaper than the WeatherTech Bumpstep and you don't need a tool to remove it. It is only about $35 and comes with a locking hitch pin, which would be at least half that. I used the pin I already had since the key is on my biking, tubing, towing, traveling key chain.
Engineered and designed in US, but made overseas. Comes with a bunch of cool stickers if you're into that.

No. Must be the angle or camera weirdness. There is about 8" more inserted into the hitch and the protrusion is adjustable.
