This was my plan because I didnt think it would be as easy as just jumping the LED wires to a strip and removing the resistor.
Im still thinking of doing it but im not sure what the benefit of it would be if this works just fine.
I think the beauty of using a separate controller is that you could run as many strips as required without overloading the components that are already there.

Agreed, my only grey area is how the LIN bus addresses the slave components. I would love to be able to provide these boards to other members if i created them. If they are all different it would be difficult to account for, although I guess i could have it respond to all addresses if that is the case as they are not individually controlled by the car.

Hey all,

My wife and I just got our 2023 Lariet last week. I have already hardwired my radar and front/rear dashcams nad wasnt too bad to be honest.
However since the first night with it I have been disappointed with the ambient light setup. Especially in the footwell and lack of lighting in the cupholders. My fiesta st has brighter lights than the truck sadly. Im interested in trying to modify or create my own LED modules for the LIN bus starting with the footwells. Has anyone played with this idea? I already pulled the drivers footwell light and determined the chips on the board.

It uses a MCP2021-330E LIN transciever and a standard PIC12F1822 microcontroller.

Pictures(best I could get until I get it under my friends microscope)

Looking at the datasheets and a Microchip document for implimenting RGB lighting(HERE) Im pretty sure the the transciever is powering the LED module directly. Said transciever is limited to 50ma of current so just putting on more LEDs is probably out. Im assuming the microcontroller is using PWM on the transistors to control the color on the LED but I dont know if its a common cathode or anode LED yet.

I know this will probably be over the heads of some but I was hoping someone has at least somewhat tackled this or has any info.

My ultimate goal is to build my own board that can read and act on the data transmitted by the master LIN node on the bus or modify and existing board to control more powerful lights.
Hello, fellow 23 owner! I just wanted to agree that the ambient lighting in our trucks isn't ambien-y enough, as a matter of fact, its sub-ambient, IMO. That said, I recognized about 20 words of your post, and understood 8 of them. Your final result looks great, and I really wish I could replicate it!

Awesome stuff! I’m attempting the same on the front footwells on my 22 lariat. Any tips on removing the existing led strips? On the passenger side I removed the five Torx screws but still no lucks. Thanks!

Yes, the Fuse panel is also the BCM (It's integrated)

Connector 2280F, Pin #4 - Power Feed for Ambient Lighting and Pin #13 is the LIN, 2280F should be the bigger connector to the right of the Fuses
Hi, The pin #13 is in connector 2280F or 2280G? Do you have a wiring diagram?

Thanks, unhappyelf. I like this thread! I'm also interested in some mods to the ambient lighting, mostly adding a few LEDs in select places--door cubbys, cupholder area, maybe under the driver's & passenger's seats for the rear floorboard. This definitely gives me some much better ideas than I had before, especially for the ability to dim and color change the LEDs from the stock interface.
