Hello,

So I have a pair of Baja Designs Squadron sports sitting around and was thinking about adding them for lighting the rear for backing up the trailer or even when camping. Would you guys care to share your rear lighting?

I was thinking of on top of the bed, close to the cab but not sure if the bed would just cast a massive shadow. My thought is that I get a much wider lit area up there though.

Or, would below the bumper be the best spot? These are the 4 LED lights, if I mount under the bumper I might just end up buying a different light.

I have seen the ones mounted in the 3rd brake light, pretty awesome looking but not sure I want to do that.

Thanks!

Have both high and low. One set in the bumper (wired to 7 pin reverse wire) and also on top of rack (wired to switch in cab). Both are Diode Dynamics rack ones are either white (main light) or red (secondary light not as bright) red is better for nighttime.

I have these Rigid SLR lights on both sides then added a smaller Baja S1's on the same bracket but aimed off to the sides. Sorry but I can't find a pic of the Baja mounted but here's the lights and here's a pic of the SLR, has different backlighting. I don't have them wired to the reverse lights so I don't blind someone in a parking lot. Here's a link to some of my pics- https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/showcase/building-the-beast.613/

The red circle on the last picture is where I added the Baja, they are above the lowest point on the Rigid so they don't snag something even easier than they already can.

I think i have pics posted of my rear lights. But mine are on a Chase Rack. I put Rigids and they really light up at night with backing up. I wired mine directly into the Upfitter Switches.

Best thing I've seen done for a trailer was lights added on the trailer near the rear corners and the wheels that come on with reverse. Friend added them to his car trailer, any truck with a 7-pin with working reverse lead in there benefits when towing that trailer.

That may make for a good point to just add some on the trailer too. Often we are pulling into spots late because we leave after the kids get out of school on a Friday or something like that.

I put two little LightForce work lights on the bumper, near the center on the plastic part. I wasnt drilling into that big ole steel bumper. Power off the bed power and switched between the 12v connectors in the center of the dash with a Lightforce panel.

Works great for connecting the trailer. Hits the ground, not everywhere.

I've really been thinking about adding that to my car trailer, I get to enough races after dark to justify it. My plan is to make the winch controller box a more permanent part of the trailer, right now it's just a battery box strapped down to the rack in the tongue frame. In the new box have the battery for the winch go to a fused power distribution box with a relay. Have a switch in the box so I can manually turn on the lights without a truck connected, or if the switch is in "off" it is really switching control of the relay to the reverse signal on the 7-pin.

To answer your question, yes below the bumper. I have a single Wallyworld LED light mounted below my trailer hitch, and wired into the reverse lights. Plenty bright for after hours trailer hookup, without blinding everyone at the boat ramp.
