Sorry, I didn't notice under your username that you already had a Ranger. All Rangers seem to be selling fast. I mentioned in another thread when I was at the dealer today for service I only saw one Ranger on the lot which was a Tremor. And the dealer I was at has huge inventory of Ford vehicles. It certainly is not a buyers market right now on trucks with all the shortages on new production. Last year when I bought mine it certainly was, great deals and 0% financing. I got lucky with the timing.
First post, never going to do that again, way to many emails! ?

If you are talking about getting emails from replies to your posts you can turn that off in your account settings. Click your name at the top of the forum then select account details, then select privacy. You can then select what notifications you want to receive, notably make sure under email options you have them all unchecked if you do not wish to get emails then click save. Hope that helps.

My truck listed for over $33K an there were $6K in discounts total. My brother is retired from Ford so I got a Z plan discount that got me a couple hundred more off. The Z plan was limited because of the existing discounts but still helped.

I don't think I would have ever paid full list let alone over list.

The Harley dealership near me always charged a "dealer prep/assembly fee" which i supposed to be part of the MSRP an freight charge. That's one of the reasons I always bought 2 year old low mileage bikes.

I worked at a car dealership for a few months an they'd add stuff like "window anti theft etching" stuff. Trucks were worse with the bed liners already in an stuff like that.

MAn, our dealer tried to pull that on us. $5k markup, told them I could do the mods to an FX4 for less. I did end up paying a $500 markup but there were some minor rebates too. The thing was we got such a good trade in value on our Escape Lease, that is where I think we came up. We were a year out and they covered nearly all of the $4000 in remaining payments....that was on an Escape that had white paint on the under carriage from a careless painter on the highway too.

Plus, we REALLY needed a truck to tow our travel trailer. I did not want to put our Honda Pilot through the summer Vegas months while towing as well as concerns of these shortages lasting until next year.

Both dealers we went to said no negotiating off MSRP and at the time, this dealer was the only with a Tremor. That and for example, Chevy/GMC all had markups on even the normal trucks but either way I wanted to stick with Ford.

Each situation is different. If you can wait, then do it otherwise I do not think it will get better this year. I am in the computer industry and we still have massive shortages on some items.

Buckle up folks, the ride is just beginning. The more I research the more I learn that this inflationary tale is just on chapter one. In addition to the chip shortage, manufacturers are building less cars. Not saying we turn into Cuba with everyone driving cars built in the 50s, but the concept of flipping cars on a whim may well be cost prohibitive in the future. Buy quality and what you like to drive is the lesson here.

alright Debra. The Market will work itself out. The auto manufacturers will inflate their prices as much as they can until the market pushes back. The original Model T wasn't the first auto on the road. It was an inexpensive vehicle that a plumber could afford. Autos were no longer a toy only for the wealthy. Hopefully in the future you'll be able to purchase a truck with modern safety features that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
My father's brand new bare bones 1969 C10 was IIRC $2700 OTD. Even with inflation it's cost in 2021 would only be $19,431 per an inflation calculator. That tells me the manufacturers have some wiggle room.

Love the Debra reference, you age yourself with that, but since I got it I show my age too lol. Not being a downer, just a realist. Since your are from California (like me) I’ll use a familiar reference, real estate, specifically Bay Area. Back in the day when it skyrocketed no one thought it would last, but it did. There was a new normal, a step if you will. Think we are seeing that in autos. Will 7k over MSRP go away, sure that is just greed. The base prices may not go down any time soon. Waiting this out, might be a while.

HI Left,

You know, I read somewhere in the Ford archives that the Ford Escort never turned a profit in all its years of sales.... Yep....a money looser.... When I retired it was about $3B to start with a clean sheet of paper to a new ground up vehicle parked in a dealer's showroom. I am sure costs are higher now... so the up front investment is huge and it takes a few years of sales to even get to break even.. Risky business... Can you say Edsel?

I missed my point. I know the burden to provide the public a vehicle they want, when they want it isn't easy. My point was that modern trucks aren't the trucks of our forefathers. They are plush cars with beds. That's what the public wants and the manufacturers appear to be making money on it. Pricing has escalated to a point that has far outpaced inflation. IMHO the market will eventually fill that void when people can no longer finance a F150 with a 30 year mortgage.

The gov an buying public have pretty much killed bare bones vehicles. Mandated air bags an other safety features not even offered in 1969 add costs, the emissions systems are complex an expensive an other stuff like that.....most buyers would look at a car/truck with manual windows, manual locks an no a/c an run, not walk away. It's fine for a weekend classic to cruise out to dinner in but not to commute in every day.

Phil I heard/read ford an the other brands sold their small ecoboxes with no concern for profit but to increase brand CAFE numbers. Sell 2 escorts an you can make a fat profit on a loaded town car without a CAFE fine at the end of the year.

Hi Langley,

Yep....there was that aspect of CAFE credits, but the company goal was that each carline was profitable. I launched the largest alternative fuel fleet in the history of the USA when we made all 3.0L Rangers capable of running E85. It was done for CAFE credits and was very expensive for Ranger, so Ranger profits were significantly reduced and I got dinged in my performance review for this....Sheesh.... Sometimes you are the Bug and sometimes the Windshield...It was a bug year....Year 2 we figured out how to use the ECM to run E85 and get rid of the $200 fuel sensor. No year 2 ding.....

Hi all,
I wanted to test drive a Tremor this weekend and the asking price was $54,495- just nuts! $2000 for desert prep and $5000 for Tremor prep. I told the wife to get out of the truck and we laughed our way out the door.
It’s a sellers market right now. But I wouldn’t have bought it either. I had a very hard time finding any Rangers. Found a Tremor last Friday by luck and I got it for around Xplan price - and a $1500 rebate. About $3500 off MSRP.

Xplan is an "ok" deal. Its money off MSRP. Some other incentives can not be combined with X-plan. Ask your dealer to make sure!
I got a better deal WITHOUT xplan.

Yeah, I get Z plan so it doesn't really make much difference too me. X plan is a good haggle free way of buying
