Definite bummer... and only a little damage, I shave a little bit off the rope doing the initial wind up. too bad I didn't realize until it was all the way in.
I just glanced through the Smitybuilt manual.

My first recommendation is forget about the mounting screw and order a Bubba Rope Grabber mount. Leagues better in every way. https://www.amazon.com/Bubba-Rope-2...hvlocphy=2840&hvtargid=pla-627579835127&psc=1

Second, the manual says "some tension when winding" which should read "Minimum 500 pound load for the first 2 layers". You need the base layers to be very tight and densely wrapped. Hand strength is not enough.

Third, give your rope a real good look for any damage. Synthetic is great, but somewhat delicate. Take note of how far along the damage is and be aware of it. Synthetic rope, even if cut right through, can easily be repaired and you only loose about 30 inches for a 3/8 rope.

What difference does that mount do vs the side mound screw?

When tensioning the rope i hooked it to another vehicle and barely applied e brake. should have been between the 500lb to 1k rec's.

will definitely take a look at the rope soon and before any use. I don't think any significant damage happened buy only one way to find out.

The grabber is stronger.

The grabber is on the base layer, not up the side wall. On the sidewall the screw head creates a hazard to damage the rope, and can allow binding if the rope gets pulled under.

Even if you do not want to install it, it's worthwhile to buy one for emergency repair. Broken screw or line in the field, this can save the day.

Oh I see. Makes more sense now. For $12 I will order one, especially since I will need to undo the whole thing.

The mount works great and the winch fit perfect with the stock bumper intact. had to make a custom bracket for the winch controller instead of making new leads. Still working on a bracket for the adaptive cruise control.

There are plenty of other pictures online and in the forums of the winch/plate installed. Looks very clean and is pushed back nicely.
this looks sweet. does the ACC need to be calibrated after relocating?

As far as I know it does not need special calibration, just releveling as you would do after a lift/level.
