Problem with Consumer Reports and JD Powers is they present the data in a way that makes it look more dramatic and do not give enough data to make an assessment of what it really means.

What does 80 down to 44 mean? 80% to 44% reliable or is it scaled and really means 98% reliable down to 96% reliable or is it something totally different.

Would you subscribe to CR if they reported 98% to 96%? The difference between the best and worst cars these days is so small that that should not be a factor in your buying decision.

Here is CR reliability report based on actual data for those who are interested... I do own a Ford and it's not my first but I'm not married to the idea that they are somehow inherently better or worse than a Nissan nor should anyone else be. You guys have had luck it seems with your Rangers. Mine has been a total piece of crap. It doesn't mean I'm going to just dismiss an entire brand. We've had Fords in the family for a while now and I respect the brand a lot. I also respect what Nissan (which is not actually owned by Renault) is doing right now. Individual results may vary as they say. Not trying to stir the pot, just sharing the evidence.

Based on the entire brand name, their aren't very many ranked above Ford that I would buy today. And I would need much more money to get what I want from any of those!

I think when they do finally show up in the showrooms I'll go look at one.
For a daily-driver-asphalt-princess-Home Depot-crawler, it may well be a decent truck.
I will admit loving my Ranger, but being equally frustrated with the vibration I can't seem to:
A) get rid of
2) get anyone to agree there's more to it than just tires.

So yeah. I'll go look.

My daily driver is a 2010 CC SE 4wd Frontier. I'm nearing 220k with nothing but routine maintenance being done regularly. I like the new Frontier, however, after spending some time at the Build and Price I have determined I will get much more value out of the 2022 Ranger I now know I need to buy. I waited for the B&P because I was really leaning Nissan after my 10+ years with my current incredibly reliable Frontier.

Interesting that Buick an Chevy are rated so far apart when they sell the same cars with different badges on them. I've owned foreign cars in the past but in the last 25 years I've bought US brands for myself. I did buy a few foreign beaters for my twins while they were in high school an college. IMO the Japanese brands were a lot better in the mid/late 80's through the mid/late 90's. The gap has narrowed or is gone.

They all have a bad model now an then an build an occasional lemon of every model now an then. I like a lot of the Dodge products but don't trust the long term reliability of them. the 80's an 90's Maxima was a nice car an I considered buying one, also almost bought a pathfinder but ended up with a ford product as usual.

When I first started at the post office the union used to encourage buying American made cars, including non US brands built here but that died out in the late 90's

Had an 06 one of my favorite cars. But had to get rid of it because I had the manual transmission. Hope the new ones have a better turning radius.
This is actually something I’m looking into. Just depends if a ranger will get delivered to me by the end of the year.

have you contemplated the possibility that Ford doesnt come out with this configuration?

I have thought of that and not sure what I will do??? I’m driving an almost 20 year old ‘02 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew that I purchased new. I sat in a 2021 F-150 last week and it’s absolutely massive! With that said, I’m passing on all full-size options. I don’t want a shorter bed than I have now (5.5’ bed). I’m married with 2 kids and a dog so a SuperCrew is a must. I hate all of the midsize competition, so I’m going to be in a pickle if this configuration isn’t available? My only hope is that Ford will offer it since all of the midsize competition DOES offer a SuperCrew/longbed? I’ve been banking a truck payment to myself for almost 4 years now and would have already had a 5th Gen had it been available in this configuration. I might consider a Tacoma, but think it’s drivetrain is lack luster, interior dated and ergonomics horrific. Ford don’t make me settle on a overrated Tacoma!!! ?

I previously owned a 2007 Frontier LE. It was used, low-mileage, and the previous owner (friend) is the Service Manager of the Nissan Dealership. He added lots of after-market parts and upgrades. Great, reliable truck, great stereo (Rockford Fosgate)! In 2018, I traded it in for a brand new 2017 Frontier. The 10 year evolution of the Frontier was very underwhelming! It felt like the exact same truck with minimal improvement. We then purchased a small travel trailer, dry weight 2,800 lbs. The 2017 Nissan had a hard time towing the trailer. A stiff head wind was a white knuckle experience as the transmission constantly downshifted to get back up to 60 mph, then slowed down immediately, then the screaming downshift again. We had to tuck in behind semis for a wind break. As well, the payload was horrible. We were probably borderline or slightly over. Rear end sag when towing was also very noticeable. I called my friend (Nissan Service Manager) saying it looked like I needed to upgrade to a Titan. He told me to go domestic as they were far superior than Nissan for towing. Started my research and decided the 2020 Ranger was the best fit. Excellent towing capacity and payload, even in the Lariat FX4 Super Crew configuration. We have been extremely happy with our latest Ranger (owned a '93 Ranger prior to the 1st Frontier). This baby tows like a dream. Sure, I wish it had a 6 foot box, integrated trailer brake controller, and better towing mirror options, but it gets the job done with gusto to spare. Swapping out the rear shocks for Eibachs improved the towing experience considerably. First impressions of the 2022 Frontier are pretty meh.

My other vehicle is a 2009 BMW that I had built to order. Still runs like a clock. No major repairs to this point. I have the normal maintenance done at the dealer, oil changes, brakes, etc, that you should do for any car.

I once took a Buick Verano for a test drive and felt I had aged 10 yrs by the end of the drive. My hair had turned grey and my joints were creaking.

Didn't see any explanation of the CR reliability ratings, for me the ones that matter the most are long term reliability reports and another report I feel is worth while is that which vehicles people keep the longest and it's generally dominated by Toyota, Lexus and Honda with a few Ford and GM trucks. I don't see much value in JD Powers initial quality reports.
