2021 Ranger Gas smell?

17000 miles-Just got back from 3000 mile trip and a gas smell appeared. Big smell near driver side and also comes through vent inside when running but stopped. Dissipates inside while driving. No leaks. Any ideas?

If you can smell it , it has to be leaking.....or at least venting , May not be getting all the way to the ground though.....

Mine did that after a long trip as well. Never had an issue after the next drive but you can smell the gas stronger near the emissions tubes (not sure the technical term).

Well the husband just changed oil and it reaks of gas and probably faulty injector ( gas mileage was a few mpg lower than before on trip) so have to see what dealer says since under warranty.

Good luck getting any real assistance from Ford with the fuel in the oil. It a common issue many of us have to one degree or another and has been discussed many times in several threads. If he hasn’t already disposed of the oil send a sample to Blackstone labs for testing to determine the fuel percentage. Mine was 3% which is low compared to others. My 2019 is a short trip very low mileage truck at 7300 miles (retired& Covid). My solution is I’m changing the oil every 3000 and using full synthetic.

So we have 33’s and the mileage was 19.8 mpg in town and on trip started losing mileage before trip (no gas smell) and put around 5000 miles on 19day trip so when back home the gas smell came and oil change came on so that’s when we changed oil. Normally husband changes around 5000 miles. The vapors smell the worst by the evap system by the master cylinder. Wouldn’t that send a code if cracked? The gas in oil was by chance. First oil changes didn’t notice but changed sooner in mileage. This trip put a lot of miles on.

Could always have a independent shop plug in a smoke machine or leak detector and see if they find anything.


Either have them make any repairs, or get printed esitmates and tell the idiots at the dealership "Here's a step by step guide".

Maybe be more diplomatic instead of calling em mean words. Ford has the worse dealerships/dealertechs as a whole.

My 21 just started the same thing. Put up another post with no other info received. Please update if you get any info from the dealer. Gonna try to get mine in soon also. The smell is annoying. Comes through vents unless high AC on for me.

... any update on this? Mine still smelling. It is definitely coming from just behind the drivers headlight and in front of the battery... I've scoured every hose and connecting....nothing... headed to dealer in a bit of it doesn't resolve.

After waiting 2 weeks the smell has improved but this was after a new oil change. The dealer couldn’t find anything. A mystery.
