Since the Ranger uses an electronic rack and pinion and does not actually have a hydraulic power steering system, I have to add a pump. I've played with the idea from the beginning of finding a way to run a power steering pump on the existing belt and pulley system, but haven't really figured a great way to do it. I also didn't want to have a belt alignment issue to deal with, so I bought a used electronic power steering pump from a wrecked 2019+ wrangler or gladiator. The plan is to use this pump to run the gear box and the hydro assist ram. I truly don't know if it's going to have enough volume/pressure to do it, but we will find out. The pump will need a power, ground, and vehicle speed signal, and keyed power to work. It reduces pressure at higher speed to firm up the steering. I sure hope it all works like it is in my head lol

Got the truck on the ground today. First time on its own full weight since I bought it. Need to do some more mods on the steering, but it's getting close.
I took today off to get some work done on the truck and it snowed so day, so I made an improvised shelter.

Crazy thought... you should totally put a full 6ft box on that truck... I've always wanted to see a crew cab ranger with a 6ft box.... I'm surprised no one has done it yet here.

Haha, I think it would look good, too! I already have a custom aluminum offroad bed being built by Nemesis industries.

It's been kinda crappy weather here, so I have mostly been working on the Fairlane inside the shop.
Here's an update to where she currently sits:
Power steering gear box is permanently mounted and the frame is reinforced using trail gears ifs box mounting kit.

I said it before and I'll say it again, dude your a mad man!
This is crazy cool, how do you get the nads to start cutting up a new truck frame?
What year Fairlane do you have? I picked up a 68 fastback last year in really good shape.

Haha thanks man, it helped that it was already wrecked, but once the first cut is done, it's easy to get carried away.

I need to do a huge shoutout to Stage 3 motorsports. Bought a few parts from them and they had amazing customer service, everything arrived quickly and was exactly what I ordered. This stuff should add a bit of power and sound. And the diff cover just looks badass!

I was able to install the intake and BOV tonight. I was really impressed with how well the AFE intake fit. Easy install.
Follow this link to check out Stage 3 website, it helps me build a partnership with them long term.

Thanks for the response Phil. I've often wondered how a shaft with double cardon joints at each end would work. I always assumed it would get a "jump rope" effect under load. I may look in to it for this project as it would allow me to keep my caster angle higher.
All 66-77 Early Broncos had double Cardon shafts at both ends. I believe Tom Woods msks some killer heavy duty replacements for the Bronco, you might check w them.

Your work has been absolutely impressive. Just wanted to throw in this link to a AUS ranger I saw where they did similar work with a slightly different approach. https://www.whichcar.com.au/reviews/custom-4x4s/sas-ford-ranger-custom
Hope this adds to the inspiration and your determination that this project is entirely possible and your on the right track to making probably the only SAS 5G ranger here in the US and probably 2 of 2 in the entire world!
