With Firestone Destination XT on 285/70-17 I dont rub the knuckle what so ever. If anything on the OffRoad in a turn and suspension compressed I only have minimal rub on the front crash bar.
Heck yeah! Plus that is much wider tire. Looks great!

Ok guys. I know this is old but I need help. I DO NOT want to lift my truck and I WILL NOT put spacers on it.

So the question is, what's the biggest size tire I can put on my truck without it rubbing?

I want to get different wheels. So I'm thinking about 0mm offset, which should act like having a ~2" spacers. I'm hoping 275/75/17, which is 33.2 inch.

Has the other guy mentioned you're going to have to do some searching. Also with non-factory wheels we can't guarantee a goddamn thing

Tim, 33s with a bit of poke would look pretty cool but it’s not going to be plug ‘n’ play. I hate to crush your dreams but to get that look, modifications are necessary.

There are a lot of trucks on the forum with the look you’re going for but a lot goes into it besides just tires and wheels.

EDITED: Hey @The_Kings_apostle , I’ve updated this to help you visualize how offset and lift play out when it comes to our trucks.

Offset and Levels and Crash Bars - Oh My!

Offset

Here is a stock +55mm offset wheel setup

(The lines represent the crash bars)

Now, push it out 2” (the grey area) with a 0mm offset wheel…

IMG_0298.jpeg

All looks fine - cool - so far, so good, right?

Not so fast, let’s go back to the stock setup again…

IMG_0298.jpeg

Now, turn the wheel all the way to the left…

IMG_0298.jpeg

You can see how the sidewalls get closer to the crash bars

Now, push it out 2” (the grey area) with a 0mm offset wheel…

IMG_0298.jpeg

Oops - the tire is now into the crash bars - rubbing - not cool.

Levels and Lifts

Lifting the front end of the truck moves the crash bars higher above the arch of the tire, giving you more room to work with in the scenario above. The small rounded corner squares in the images below represent the crash bars.

Factory height…

IMG_9640.jpeg

There’s a limited amount of room between the tire and crash bars but when you lift the front end, you lift the crash bars higher, creating more space.

Here it is lifted/levelled (exaggerated for emphasis)…

IMG_9640.jpeg

Now, there’s much more room between the tire and crash bars.

Added Bonus: Other things that tires can rub on such as, fog light housings, wheel well liners, and crush blocks are also lifted out of the way at the same time.

Good luck!

You're amazing! Thank you! The reason I don't want to lift it is because I want to tow a travel trailer. So I'm trying to figure out the biggest tire I can have, without lifting it or using spacers, so I can still tow a travel trailer.

Yes, I know I could still technically tow a travel trailer with a lifted truck, but where I live has a lot of hills, so you don't want to lower the rear of the trailer at all or it can cause it to scrape the ground sometimes.

Also, every time I've seen a lifted truck pull a trailer, the back is squatting way too much and it looks absolutely stupid. Lol

I've seen so many people on this forum talk about putting bigger wheels on their Ranger and it seems like literally every single person says they're gonna lift it and/or use spacers.

OH! And another reason I don't want a lift: I have a 2 wheel drive truck. And 2 wheel drive trucks look so dumb when they're lifted.

With the trailer attached, you’re likely going to be level and if you level the truck by raising the front end, you could very well squat the rear when you tow.

Sometimes, you just can’t win.

Do you know what the biggest size I can put on my truck without a lift or spacers, then?

Also, I'm planning on getting different wheels because I have the ugly gray wheels. So if changing the offset would help me get bigger tires, I can find wheels with that offset. I don't want to go negative offset, though. Most I would is a 0 offset.

What would you recommend?

I don’t know the answer but I doubt you can go to zero offset. Your best bet is to read through the various wheel and tire threads to find out what success other members have had.

Good Luck
