Good lord sounds like what we experienced on my Wifes 01 Rav4.

Hard shifts and all. Ended up just being a PCM issue that was fixed with $60 and a flash. But could not sell that thing fast enough after it acted up.

Have the dealer check your fluid level. Sounds like it’s under-filled.
I'm probably OCD, but I change out the factory fluids in the first week I bring home a vehicle. Transmission, diffs, transfer case and even the antifreeze. In years past I've had issues and it's been factory fluids breaking down too soon,(and/or too much or too little in it). The manual's drain intervals they mention don't take into account the metal dust that begins floating in your driveline during the first couple thousand miles either. I'm sure that adds to the fluid breakdown too.

Not sure if this is the right thread to post my issue, but here goes.
I assume there's many Transmission threads on the Forum.
I'll add my dilemma to the thread. Yesterday after warming up the motor for about a minute or so I took off, driving easy, local city streets, it was a little cold out, around 45 degrees or so. At one point while accelerating the engine revved for about 2 seconds but the truck wasn't responding. Then the trany kicked in. First time since I have the truck.
The transmission's been quirky from day one, but more so when its cold so I always go nice and easy to warm it up.
Always been meaning to get it to the dealer to have the level checked and I even cancelled a earlier appointment.
Not this time, soon as I got home, I scheduled an appt . where I bought it. April 6.
I'll follow up soon as I can with what the dealer says.
My experience- this transmission is Not happy until fully warmed up.
Good luck to everyone else out there with the 10sp woes
i would suggest calling around to other ford dealers and see who can do it sooner. it is not going to get better. ?

does it seem like ford sent some sky net update recently that is now killing transmissions lol. mines shifted oddly now and then since new but not till recent did it really get bad .

The only thing I notice at 10k miles is the occasional hard downshift when I brake quickly to a stop. Most of the weird shifting worked itself out after about 5k miles. If I brake slowly it’s fine, but a quick brake at the stop sign and it does clunk down at the low gears. It seems odd but I assume it’s nothing.

That's normal for the transmission to try and match your braking...if your slowing at a relaxed pace but the trans engages hard into 4th or 5th then something's starting to go off...I considered my transmission very smooth right up till around 95K and it started with delayed reverse shift and very hard 1st to 2nd...

Dealer did a visual inspection, opened up the rear end (and drained all gear oil, presumably thinking something was broken) and filled the rear end with 80W-90, all on Ford’s dime. They also reset the computer as my clock, radio fader settings, and dash light settings were back to center or full (e.g. all speakers vs just front). I’m guessing this was needed to reset the trans adaptives, or just for their troubleshooting. Either way, will post back once I’ve driven it some to see if anything has changed.

hmmm...what's the rear end and resetting the radio have to do with the transmission?

Maybe it's now programmed to play fake smooth shifting transmission noises, recorded from a ZF box , used along with noise cancellation to negate slipping and grinding noises. Technology at its finest.
