I'm excited for this segment. And if it does well, I would love to see the Subaru Baja brought back! The Maverick looked a little plain in the spy shots, so I guess we'll see what kind of trims they offer and how they will market it. The Santa Cruz is clearly going for the Subaru...
Honestly that's sometimes the most fun kind of off roading. Sending it with friends at the park is fun, but exploring national forest trails off the grid is just so relaxing and fun! Love the pics.
Bfg K02's are the gold standard for A/T tires. However they can be pricey. Here are some alternatives that offer great value without sacrificing performance or drivability on-road: Falken Wildpeak AT3W, Nitto Ridge Grappler, General Grabber ATX, and Toyo Open Country AT3. Hope that helps!
It doesn't look normal for me in a California car. Not sure about all the claims that they switched materials, does anyone have a source for that?
To me, it looks like you got a bad batch of bolts that started to rust and thus spread to the control arms and knuckles. It looks to be cosmetic...
C is fine. It's a common misconception that a higher load rating = more protection from rocks when rock crawling. Sure, you might have more protection from rocks as a result of having a "beefier" tire, but not all E-rated tires will be better than all C-rated tires.
If you get a good quality...
I'm not sure if Tacoma truly dominates the off road pickup segment any more than it does the mid-size pickup segment. Ranger/Colorado sales are strong, but they don't compare to Tacoma. More tacos sold = you see more tacos on the road = you see more tacos off road. More sales also means that...
Sorry to hear about your experience, definitely frustrating to pay so much and wait so long to get a defective product. Either way, you literally just got it installed, so take it back and go through with warranty. You might even be able to just get a refund and get a different brand.
Looks great! As far as tires go, here are a few options that are great:
BFG KO2 (the gold standard. can't go wrong but pretty pricey)
Falken Wildpeak AT3W (amazing value, currently what I run at 265/70R17 with 25k miles. Got a set of 4 for $550 and I couldn't be happier on and off road)
Nitto...
I don't think so, Ford Performance tuned the Ford Fox set so I imagine it would be different than the normal valving. I have a friend at Ford Performance and he said that both the Ford tuned and Fox tuned sets are good quality, the Ford tuned one will have a more Ford familiar feel (think F150...
I've always wondered how oil brands make claims on oil change intervals - how do they know that their oil meets the change interval for all engines out there on the road? Especially at 25,000 miles? Seems like it's a good way to get sued but I'm sure those big companies have a strong team of...
I have a friend at Ford Performance and he said that there is a huge difference in the shock valving between the normal Fox kit and Ford tuned kit. Not that Fox is bad - they definitely know what they're doing. But the Ford tuned version will be more familiar and the feel will be more in-line...
Thanks for sharing pics of the 1" wheel spacers on the hub. I wanted the look of 1" spacers (as opposed to the 1.5") but I could have sworn that I read that the 1" spacers don't work on the stock wheels since the lug studs slightly stick out and interfere with the mating surface on the wheel...
If you're in a low enough traction situation, stability control can only do so much. It's definitely possible to go over the point of no return. But my point is that I'm sure it still kicked in, you might just not have noticed the small yellow light flashing and ABS motor whirring.
Sorry Jesse, you probably didn't get it sideways enough. A quick press of the button turns off traction control but not stability control. A long press supposedly turns off both, but if you get sideways enough, the truck will still reel you back in unfortunately. If you lock the diff, then...
I'm surprised 5-Star hasn't chimed in yet. I remember late 2019 when the 5-star tunes started coming out, lots of people were having issues and posting them here. There was some real heat in the comments until 5-Star stepped up and started individually replying to customers' concerns.
As far...
Just FYI - the stock Ranger is plenty capable of going off-road. Especially if all you plan is light trails.
My Ranger is stock but I've upgraded to the max tire size that fits without a lift: 265/70R17. I'm definitely not gentle with my Ranger but it takes it like a champ.
I agree with Frency...
Oh gotcha, makes sense. Yeah I remember reading a few posts of alternator issues in this forum already.
I'm at 33k now at 2 years of ownership. Trying to eek out as much as I can before powertrain warranty expires, starting to drive our second vehicle/beater car as much as possible now lol
I'm assuming that the dealer is fixing the alternator issue under warranty? I can just imagine so many dealers putting up fights if they suspect that there were water crossings/heavy mud and that it "goes against" owner's manual guidelines, when in reality, it's a design issue.
The Aussie's...
