Oh wow, didn't know that. Looks like Sumitomo and Goodyear dissolved their joint venture. Falken is still definitely owned by Sumitomo though. Good news, @Lost19Ranger , Falken has no ties with Goodyear!
Yeah, so basically Falken is owned by Sumitomo rubber industries. Then in the 90s, Sumitomo and Goodyear basically agreed on a joint venture in the 90s to produce each other's tires for each respective market. Falken tires are not re-branded Goodyears as far as I'm aware though.
To be completely frank here, you'll notice a pretty big difference (in a poor way on-road) if you upgrade to that size and aggressiveness. They'll all be fine in the rain and inclement weather, but there will definitely be a loss in MPG, increase in road noise, and relatively sluggish...
Got the ol' Ranger filthy again last weekend at The Mounds ORP near Flint, MI. I went wheeling with 2 Jeep XJs and a Wrangler JK so I didn't have super high expectations besides having fun in the mud while I watched the Jeeps do their thing.
BUT! I was shocked again at how capable this truck...
I have just over 20,000 miles on Falkens and I would buy them again any day. I've driven them in just about every condition: pavement, snow, rain, gravel, grass, peanut butter mud, rocks. Tires are awesome in every condition and I really don't have any faults to it. They're quiet on the highway...
Oh, since then I've figured out how to turn it off completely. You just have to press and hold the traction control button AND lock your rear diff. Donuts for days in the mud or snow when you lock your diff.
Payload is shit but towing capacity is great? Come again?
I'm sorry but if you're going to argue numbers, they're just not in your favor. Ranger gets best in class payload and towing capacity. Heck, it can out haul a new 2020 Toyota Tundra.
And yes, stats aren't everything. Lowering the bed...
I'm not quite sure if I agree with your reasons for not liking the truck (or rather, necessarily Ford's fault), I understand that the Ranger isn't for everybody. If you're interested in selling your Ranger, a few months ago Carvana was practically paying people to sell their Rangers. Some people...
The 2020 Escape is great too! Another option for me down the line would be to give my fiancée the Ranger as her daily when her Highlander with 240k miles dies, and I can pick up a Mach E :giggle: Sure, the Mustang name is stupid, but that would be a sweet commuter - charge at home, save tons on...
For me, it's my rock sliders. I don't regret that I got them per se, bc they've definitely served their purpose off road. They're all scratched/gouged/dinged up on the underside which would have otherwise been damage to my door sills. But I regret getting them welded to the frame - should have...
I'm pretty interested in the Maverick as well after several years. If I don't find myself needing to tow that often to make it worth it (the most I tow is my project car), the Maverick might be good for me to downsize and gain some MPGs + improve the on-road ride.
Sure, everything is a compromise and more could be done with more money. But I think you're underestimating the amount of money and effort Ford puts into Ecoboost over the 3.0 diesel. They're definitely playing favorites.
I'm sure that was a reason/factor as well. The bottom line is that the diesel was stunted on purpose by management, not a result of the physical limitations of the engine/truck.
Haha no worries. Here's a link for the end-all-be-all capability stats that Ford releases:
https://www.ford.com/cmslibs/content/dam/brand_ford/en_us/brand/resources/general/pdf/guides/20Towing_Ford_F150_Oct15.pdf
One thing I will point out though, is that the diesel doesn't tow less than the...
I'm surprise no one has pointed anything out yet - not sure where you got your tow ratings, @SILK , but the 3.5 Ecoboost F150 is rated to tow 13,200 lb :) a good more than the diesel.
One thing to add too, the angle of the slope is way less than it ever "feels" like. If you draw an angle of 30 degrees on a piece of a paper, it looks pretty small, but if you sit on a 30 degree surface, it feels like you're looking straight down. The most you'll ever see on a typical paved road...
Ah, I see what you mean. Ecoboost engines are so temperamental when it comes to fuel economy. I've also noticed high 20s when I'm driving 60 mph or so, but that goes down the drain the moment you're driving 75+ mph. My commuting is nearly all interstate at 75 mph and then some city driving so it...
