Phil,Hi Ben,
Yep...it is IVD taking over. Interactive Vehicle Dynamics. A fellow I knew in racing was and still is part of the Ford IVD development. He visited me here in Green Valley, driving down from Ford Phoenix test track in an advanced Protorype. We were reviewing the prototype and I saw this huge "goiter" in the steering intermediate shaft.. WTF is that I questioned him. He told me that was the steering disconnect that would disconnect the driver and the steering wheel from the vehicle when the vehicle thought the driver was not able to handle the vehicle to prevent a crash... !!!!!! No (F*ingway,) I told him..I would never buy a vehicle with such a feature...Well...Now with electric steering the "goiter" is not required...the car can take over the electric steering if programed to do so.... I cannot tell you if this in the current Ranger or not....Brake applied is certainly part of the current 5G Ranger!

Would this feature be different in 4x4 vs. 4x2?
