I’m coming off the interstate into ramp with a sharp R/H turn, sharper than expected and I was going too fast.
I hung in there and turned even more expecting the tires to squeal

What happened then was what sounded like the wheels or a wheel rubbed against the fender well and all of a sudden it’s like I tapped the brakes but really don’t think I did, it felt like not all wheels were braking, like the left front and the right rear.

This all happened in a few seconds, regained footing out of the curve and drove as usual.

I didn’t touch the brakes at least I don’t think I did, too busy hanging on through the curve, no collision lights flashed. I thought it was like the ABS engaged automatically ..?

Stopped and looked under each fender and didn’t see any type of rubbing.

Rather puzzled.

thank your driving assists for keeping you on the road.
worked as designed.
Ok, I will.

I felt like I was in full control, apparently Nanny didn’t think so.
I wonder what she’ll think when my sway bar is installed?

Yup traction control. These days it's hard to even swing the rear end around in snow. Your car or truck is like "Uhh... what are you doing? let me help you with that..."

This didn’t feel like helping but I guess I’ll leave my Ken Block impersonations for when I’m in my 97 M3.

Well I guess it depends on how well you know your vehicle's behavior. After all, you were there, not us. As someone who occasionally intentionally "goes in hot", how you described it definitely sounded like traction control.

As someone who enjoys going in hard, I've felt the truck take over and brake different wheels...it is weird the first time it happens.

You can turn off traction control if you want to test your own skills.

Are you sure one of your tire wasn't rubbing on something? This use to happen to me a lot on my Land Rover after adding oversized tires. Any time I made aggressive turns and the body leaned one way or the other, those tires would rub and it felt as you described. The first time it happened it didn't register what was going on, but after inspecting the tires and wheel wells, there were rubbing marks and it was obvious that's what it was.

Even with traction control off the stability control will still engage when it detects excessive body roll. Ask me how I know, lol. I take mine off road hunting each weekend. I have felt it engage and take control when power sliding on the dirt roads and getting a bit too aggressive. I love this truck off road!! Runs circles around my old Tacoma.

Happened to me today too. Took an on ramp quick and it felt like the front left wheel breaked on its own.

Hi Ben,

Yep...it is IVD taking over. Interactive Vehicle Dynamics. A fellow I knew in racing was and still is part of the Ford IVD development. He visited me here in Green Valley, driving down from Ford Phoenix test track in an advanced Protorype. We were reviewing the prototype and I saw this huge "goiter" in the steering intermediate shaft.. WTF is that I questioned him. He told me that was the steering disconnect that would disconnect the driver and the steering wheel from the vehicle when the vehicle thought the driver was not able to handle the vehicle to prevent a crash... !!!!!! No (F*ingway,) I told him..I would never buy a vehicle with such a feature...Well...Now with electric steering the "goiter" is not required...the car can take over the electric steering if programed to do so.... I cannot tell you if this in the current Ranger or not....Brake applied is certainly part of the current 5G Ranger!

That's very scary sounding! I have actually been wondering about that. Does stability control not only apply brakes individually but also adjust the steering angle? I know it's definitely capable of ripping the wheel right out of your hands it wanted to with that electric PS motor. I've also been curious about being able to tune the PS to allow less wheel input in order to steer at higher speeds. I'm sure it adjusts assistance at higher speeds but I feel like it's almost too difficult to make small changes of direction at highway speed.

Steering was not affected in my experience, the truck was not out of my control. The sound affected me more than anything because it sounded like the wheels rubbed the inner fender-well. After inspection they did not.
The truck was slowed. I can see now the safety aspect of driver assisted traction control.
Id be curious of how that would have responded on wet pavement?

Just for clarification, is your Ranger 4x4 or 4x2?
