Transmission mount failure.

I have a '21 Tremor, and I recently had a full trans rebuild at approx 52k miles. Shortly after the rebuild, I started experiencing a heavy clunk when shifting between R and D, and when coming to and accelerating from a stop. I had the driveshaft splines greased a couple years ago for a similar issue, but this is even more harsh. I took it to the dealer, and they initially said it was an exhaust mounting bolt. That didn't make much sense to me, but I approved the replacement. The advisor came back later and said it didn't fix it, and it was actually a bad transmission mount, and the mount isn't covered by the powertrain warranty. He quoted $460 to replace it, and the part is on 3 week backorder. Of course it seems odd that this would happen right after the trans rebuild, and I thought motor mounts were covered under powertrain warranty, but I know the manufacturers are slowly covering less and less.

I've never towed anything, and only use my hitch for a dirtbike carrier. Also about half my miles are highway, so it is very odd that the trans and mount have failed.

Is this mount a common failure?

This is the only instance I am aware of concerning this mount.

Did you take it to the same dealer who did the transmission work?

I will say - Double Check the mount bolts, I recall some getting transmission work reporting that they missed securing the mount bolts along with various other points.

Sadly, this kind of thing, happens too often.

The clutch slave cylinder on my 4g was replaced and my transmission clunked on every gear change after I picked it up. They missed the bolts that fasten the transmission to the frame crossmember.

I had it at the dealer for a couple hours while they were checking out the clunk, so I'm sure they would have tightened the bolts if they were loose.

I called Ford a couple days ago, and they emailed the dealership. The advisor at the dealership told me that they emailed the info from Ford to the rep, showing that this particular part shows up as not covered. The base part number is 7e373. I called Ford again to see what the reasoning is, and after 30+mins on hold for a rep and 10ish minutes with the rep checking on things, she accidentally transferred me to the Ford dealer. She was probably trying to call them for more info, and transfered me there instead. 🤣

I didn't have time to call again, so I'll try again tomorrow. To be clear, the dealer advisor has been helpful once he started responding, and this dealership has treated me well in all our interactions. They are bound by Ford's confusing warranty coverage. Hopefully the reps at Ford will be able to get me some kind of resolution.

Something you need to consider for your factory powertrain warranty. They go off of the start date for warranty. What is the start date? The original purchase date of the vehicle. Did you purchase the vehicle in 2021 or did you purchase the vehicle in 2020? If you did purchase it in 2021, what month did you purchase the vehicle in? If it's before today's date of 2021, your warranty is expired. That's just going off of years.

Yes - The Warranty Start Date - is strange on when it officially starts:
You would expect - date of signing the paperwork (New) but if (Ordered) like mine was the Warranty Start Date (Began) when the truck was loaded onto the Rail Car for delivery (in the end - my warranty started 10 days before signing all the final paperwork and 15 days before actually driving it off the lot as I secured my loan (outside of dealer financing) and this is also 7 days before it hit the dealers lot.

I have the extended warranty (Grainger) so it most likely won't matter, in the end - if I was to have a warranty issue right at my (5-Year) end date. (The 2-Week Period) where I did not actually own the truck yet.

There can be slight variations to that though. My warranty start date is 03/31/22. But I signed paperwork, money traded hands and drove it home on 04/04/22. My suspicion was that the dealer wanted to have the sale show in Fords eyes in March or the first quarter to gain some benefit from that. Paperwork was dated 03/31/22 if I remember correctly.

Out of curiosity did you pick the vehicle that day and get the process started that day? If not and only a few days later when paperwork was signed, I would have a talk with Ford, but then again it's only a 4 day difference. Not if it was much longer then that when purchasing it new, I would be having a different talk.

I was on the road coming home from Florida on 03/31/22. Got home late Saturday after they had closed. Everything transpired on 04/04/22. I wasn’t worried about the few days. But I might be in 2030 when the ESP expires 😂
