I have an appointment on the 31st of this month to take my 2019 ranger in with only 14,500 miles for fuel in the oil looking to see if anyone here has had the same issue in the dealer has corrected it and what did they do to correct it just trying to get some info here because according to oil samples, I’m at 2.5% dilution over the last four test I don’t know what the dealer does to diagnose it, but I’m just curious if there’s anything that can actually fix this Blackstone has said that it is lower in my viscosity and the only thing Ford said was change your oil frequently. The oil has been changed in my vehicle at least five times and 14,000 miles. I have never owned a vehicle where the oil level went up. I’ve owned a few back in the day where it went down quite regularly. I remember an old Vega I had that would drink oil regularly.. just checking if there has been any success in getting this issue corrected
I'v had one oil change in the last 40k hasnt gone up or down, I changed the filter last year LOL still looks and smells clean

They did nothing besides write me up a statement saying it’s normal and it’s because i don’t take long enough trips, my minimum trip distance one way is 15 miles, but I guess that’s not enough? Keep in mind I took it to three different dealers as well who all said it’s very concerning until they inquired to ford about it. It also passed a leak down test, I have no idea how since how is the fuel getting in there?

the only way they would continue to inspect it would be to pay the dealer to do monthly oil changes for a while to “prove to ford it’s an issue”. And manufacturers wonder why people distrust and/or dislike dealers and their personnel.

Before I even read the rest of the posts I was going to say that it seems to be more of a problem on trucks that aren't driven a lot. It's just a characteristic of Direct Injection engines.
Between driving TO work and driving FOR work I put on about 400 miles a week, 20,000 a year.
Never seen my oil level go up (or down) and never smelled gas in the oil.
My advice, for what it's worth....
1) Change the oil every 6 months regardless of mileage.
2) Install a catch can. Ford Performance has their own now.

As stated above, a catch can may be you first course of action.

I experienced this on my 2019 2.3 XLT Ranger I purchased the truck new. Took a trip to Colorado from Texas, I had about 4K mile on it by then maybe more. From inside the cab I could smell Oil gas smell, so I took it and had the oil changed thinking it was needing a change. This was the second oil change, the first change I did myself after about 2K miles. My son and I were on a trail and we both could smell the Oil Gas smell again and it was strong, very noticeable.

I put about 3500 miles on the truck that trip and the smell went away, and I never noticed it again. I didn't change anything and by the time the trip was over I believe the gas might have burnt off overtime.

So I totally get the direct injection short drive scenario. And in cold weather I would understand 2-3% readings. But now I’m at a scratching my head point. Last oil change on 10/29/25 sampled at 6.7% fuel. That oil had 3703 miles on it and was put in the truck on 04/05/25. So mostly warm weather driving with multiple heavy tows and long drives. So the exact opposite of short drive scenarios. So I just sampled the new fresh oil at 316 miles and it came back at 4.9% already. Granted the 316 miles have been all cold weather and a mix of short and medium range drives.
Going to the dealer tomorrow and start a conversation. BTW the truck is just shy of 25K

It almost seems like the high pressure fuel pump has developed a leak internally. I would ask them to investigate that.

That’s what I’m thinking and hoping

Update. Visit to dealer was semi productive. Expressed my concerns with my service advisor who knows me quite well from us owning two Ford vehicles still under warranty. He heard me out and wasn’t sure what they could do. He asked another advisor if he had run into this situation before. He said he had not and explained that without a run ability issue or codes there wasn’t much they could do. He suggested I contact Ford to see if they would open a case for my issue. They gave me the phone number and also a sheet that talked about fuel dilution ( see attached). I called the number and was connected to a representative. They listened and then admitted that they had no mechanical experience. So after multiple attempts to explain the situation in layman’s terms they finally seemed to get it. They issued me a case # to initiate steps to look at my issue. I printed off my oil sample results, oil change history with detail, a copy of their oil dilution sheet and a short letter explaining in detail my issue and concerns. Dropped it off at the dealer and was told that the service manager had received notification of the case from Ford. So with my documentation they would contact Ford warranty to see what the next step would be. We’ll see what happens.

PS According to their sheet I’m at severity level 4 with noted viscosity loss with only 300+ miles on my oil

Is your oil level rising?

When my HVFP was leaking, my truck was generating its own oil at about an additional quart every 1500 miles.

I think my pump was bad from the factory as mine had to be replaced at 4k miles.

It is slightly elevated but not crazy.

So I have an update to my saga with fuel dilution. I posted previously that at my last oil change which was with 3700 mile on the oil was at 6.7% . That was all warm weather driving. Then I retested the new oil at 200 miles and it was 4.9% in the fall. Did another test at 500 miles on the new oil and it was now at 7.9%. Had an appointment at my dealership to address this. My oil level was at or just above the high mark. This was after about 10oz had been removed for the two oil samples. So elevated oil level was my complaint along with the fuel dilution. Ford instructed the dealer to do an oil change, seal the engine and have me put 1000 miles on it to establish a base line. My 1000 miles were up today and I took it in to be checked. After about a half hour the service writer came up and told me that the technician said that the level was high and that the service manager and tech were in contact with Ford to inform them and get direction. I asked him how high on the dipstick it was and he said the tech just said it was high but emphasized “HIGH”. He also told me that the tech was leaning towards a leaky HPFP. They gave me the truck back and said that they should hear back from Ford in the morning with what they want to do. Took the truck home and thought I would check the level myself but they had resealed it so I didn’t touch it.
Stay tuned
P.S I also told them I want a sample of this oil whether they do it or I have to.

They’re going to replace the HPFP. Parts are on order. Obviously they will also change the oil but Ford will not pay to sample it. But they will grab a sample of it for me if I provide the container.

Got my truck back today. They replaced the HPFP under my 5/60 powertrain warranty. And a fresh oil and filter change. Will have to monitor the progress to see if that has taken care of the problem. The repair entailed removing the intake manifold so I asked if the tech could grab a couple of pics of my intake ports/valves to see what they’re looking like at 26K. He obliged so I’ve attached them. He also grabbed an oil sample of the 1000 mile test drive oil. They were looking at elevated level on the dipstick. I want to see what that oil tests at. The previous oil only had about 500 mile on it and it was at 8%. Dropped the sample off this afternoon so I should know next week sometime. I’m really fortunate to have a good dealer that works with me. Here’s hoping that this resolves the issue.
Curious for your thoughts on the intake images.

I don’t have my 2020 Ranger anymore (traded for 2026 Ranger), but I had the fuel in oil problem. At ~20,000 miles the problem largely disappeared and was no longer noticeable.
