Hi All, So the oil pan plug was on super tight from the dealers last oil change. I figured I would do this one and had to use a breaker bar to get it loose. Before I used that I tried a large crescent wrench and it slipped a little and a piece of the oil pan, looks like a fin or casting residual broke off very easily. I'm hoping this isn't a big deal. I drove 10 miles at highway speed after and nothing is leaking. Here are some picture. What do you all think? Is this a problem?
Thanks!

It was most likely way over torqued as if I recall it should be 20 ft lbs , would have to verify , the fin luckily appears to be only cosmetic damage from the wrench and is a clean fresh - break.

I wouldn't say it "broke off very easily"

More like you used the wrong tool for the job and banged it pretty hard.

I would take a dremel and just smooth it out being careful to not eat into the pan but only what is left of the fin. Just to make it look a little better.

That being said....

Won't hurt a thing to leave it.

Yes - it was my bad, wasn't thinking wrench would slip, that's how tight the plug was, did this with my old Hondas many times. I'm used to steel/iron so wasn't expecting the brittleness, like working on an aircraft engine I imagine.

Just next time use the deep socket or box end wrench.... either should minimize the likelihood of damage even if they slip off the plug... or just use a 3/4" impact...:crackup::crackup:

If you have the old piece. Clean and apply alum-bond. Sand to match after cure.
Seen this stuff used on hulls of aluminum boats to smooth out deep scratches then sanded. It hold very well.
