2.6k miles on Blue and I put regular in rather than premium (was exhausted hit wrong button the deed was done) manual says you can run either.

Anyone else done this and noticed the following?

  1. approx 20% drop in mpg
  2. Engine sounds like it’s working harder
  3. Truck feels like it’s in slomo
Truck goes but it most certainly doesn’t feel the same.

Me thinks I’ll be running premium only from now on.

I feel like I noticed an immediate difference on my first tank. I started with premium at that point and haven't gone back. Someday I might get a tune so I might as well get used to using the good stuff now.

No, I was tired of paying for premium in my Land Rover, one of the reasons I switched. I saw almost zero difference in milage when switching back and forth on the Rover, really almost unmeasurable. 20%, 4mpg, would be an extraordinary change.

No. It runs fine on regular. Although winter gas isn't much fun. Premium here is $.80 a gallon more and for grocery getting? No way.

when i take it to the track i'll run premium, (or haul a trailer up a mountain incline) otherwise the price doesn't give me the performance expected, nor the psychological thoughts that its better.

I have however noticed my average of 11.5 L/100km, has fallen to 13.7 L/100km with winter gas. blarg. that hit to my mileage and wallet sucks enough. Imagine if I was paying the extra 35 cents a liter for premium, I'd be so much more of an angry person.
What's a Literacola?

I run 93. It doesn't hurt too bad because I fill up at half a tank. I never run below 1/2 Tank. I use BP premium and Costco premium exclusively. I just don't put enough miles on to worry about a difference between regular and premium. I fill up half a tank once a month

I tried 93 a couple of times but didn't notice enough of a difference to justify nearly a $1 extra per gallon...on 87, she roars with the same fury as with 93...like I said not enough difference for another $18 per fill up...

Wow $1 extra for premium. And you're North Carolina! I would have thought California. They must be really high. What do they get a $0.60 tax per gallon??

here
2.08 a gallon reg
premium is 40 cents more

Costco and BP are the only fuel I will use. Both top tier

$2.08 per gallon!? You have it great down there:like: We swing from $2.30 up to $2.60:facepalm: Normally, I run 87, $2.40 from local Sheetz franchise so I when I tried 93 I wanted the best and topped off at Shell and the price was nearly a buck higher around $3.50...for tooling around light footed in my Ranger, too much to justify the octane boost...in my track ready MINI, always 93 octane as she sees redline all day long...

I've used 92 octane a couple times and I honestly think it feels a little stronger.

I have 10k miles on my ranger. I have used both 87 and 93 octane.

Have noticed zero difference between the grades.

Yours is just brakiing in. Not a good time for MPG comparison

I’m thinking of trying premium soon. I’ve had enough tanks through the truck now to get an idea where I’m at on 87 but I’d like to see if I notice a change with 91.

Thanks for all the replies. Hand calculating on the premium I’ve been getting 22-25 mpg. Live in the country so a lot of long leisurely cruises for everything. Dash reports about the same.

had to go to the city today before hitting all the traffic dash was reporting 17.8. I reset on every tank.

only thing I can think is the 87 difference vs the premium I’ve been pumping through it. I’ll hand calculate maybe the dash is off on this tank who knows.

all I can really say is it feels wholly different on this tank.

I was so used to putting in $56+ in my last truck for umpteen years I figured what the hell, it's the same price to put in the good stuff in this baby. And like I said in another post I truly got a 'whoa' smiley when I hit it. There is a difference, I think.
However, I read somewhere in the owners manual the true benefit of premium fuel will be in warmer temperatures.
