Coming at this from a power sports OEM background. My guess would be that since the Ranger and the Bronco shared the same production line, and the midsize truck segment is highly competitive, and the off roader segment was almost 100% owned by Jeep, Ford saw greater market share capture potential in focusing on the Bronco.

Ford could spend millions on advertising and only capture a small fraction of the midsize market, or could spend millions and take a huge chunk out of Jeep’s dominance and capitalize on the fact that Jeep has been coasting for years on beings the only new vehicle you can take the doors off.

While it seems all the manufacturers are currently dealing with issues of varying severity, Ford appears to be taking recalls as a challenge to be #1.

The ONLY way I'd buy a new Ford is if it came with a lifetime powertrain warranty.

And speaking of tailgate dampers and air conditioned seats, the ZR2 Colorado I looked at had both as well as lifetime powertrain and oil changes.

It also had a transmission that wasn't borderline bi-polar.

Hmmm...
Don't do it. You think Ford is bad , GM it 4x as bad. In 2018 I tried a new Silverado LTZ and 2 years later it had rust holes just about through the frame members. Chevy had a TSB because it was a known problem when they eliminated a wash bath after the acid bath on the frames during manufacturing. They sealed in the acid under the wax frame coating and they rusted from the inside out. Didn't show up until chunks of of wax and corrosion were falling on the floor of the garage when parked. They had a TSB it qualified for and they took it in. We'll it sat in the shop until the 3 / 36 warranty expired and then they said it was too far gone to fix without taking the whole truck apart. The cost was too high and they had no shops that would touch it. Plus the TSB was only good for the first 3 years. Their solution was to put a 3/8 thick coat of ziebart over everything and monitor it a couple years. They returned it 3 months later stinking of ziebart with it dripping off the frame and chunks of rust still bubbling off under it. I asked for a replacement truck but their response was no, it's gonna rust away in the northeast anyway in a couple years. We'll luckily the dealership felt sorry and bought it back in the end just before I hired a lawyer. Funny because the Ranger and all my previous Fords basically had no rust on frames for the first 5 years. Was a pretty truck with the most comfortable ride ever that caused me to switch, but I quickly learned a lesson. It also had the Corvette engine that would shut down cylinders. With lifters that were getting very noisy in the end. A lot smaller then my F350 it replaced and a 20 mpg rocketship with the towing gears and auto 4wd. Friends don't let friends buy Chevys. That's when I needed a replacement vehicle fast and found a unclaimed Ranger on order to return to Ford.

A good friend of mine has a 2026 Colorado Trail Boss.

I'm watching his experiences closely.

Though I'm still probably more likely to end up with a Model 3 Performance than any truck.

I had a new 2021 Colorado for the 3 months that GM let me use while they had mine and after that, I wouldn't want one. It rode so bad that my wife wouldn't get in it the last 2 months. The tranny did shift nice though and interior was nice. That model probably has been updated by now though. GM calls recalls TSBs so they don't have to fix anything over 36 months old I found even if the problem starts at 24 months.

It was always a head scratcher why Ford never advertised the Ranger more especially seeing as it took 8 years off from production. When I first got my '19 I was asked all the time "what truck is that" and when I told them their first response was "I didn't even know they were made anymore"? It's no wonder the Tacoma blows them away on sales and Ford really needs to do a better job if they want to be competitive in the mid size truck market.
I honestly think Ford doesn’t want to lose any F150 sales so they can keep claiming best selling truck. Other than that thought I’m really confused about the lack of advertising.

I've thought that was it too but then why bring the Ranger back in the first place if that were it? They could've went back to the regular cab short (6.5') bed model in the F150 and not ever reintroduced the Ranger and made more money and sales. But this is the same company who did away with all the cars (except the Mustang) and went all out on the SUVs, trucks and then EVs. 🤦‍♂️

I think they did it to attract buyers who would never under any condition, consider an F150. They'd rather sell a Ranger than have that sale go to competitors.

They are simply picking the low lying fruit, covering the bases with minimal impact to the flagship product. No need to advertise, or find a way to recoup the additional expense.

I can tell you now a major market analysis was made before they sold the first Ranger in the USA.

The only reason the rest of the world has a Super Duty Ranger is they don't sell F150's there in any meaningful numbers.

It's primarily sold in North America, although Korea, UAE and Saudi Arabia are showing interest. They are sold in Australia but nowhere near as popular. 45K sales of Ranger vs ~5K sales of F150. As best as I can tell the Ranger has been offered in Australia since the late 1980's. The F150 only really offered since 2021.

When I decided to replace my '08 F150 (other than a factory replacement engine, no major issues in 235,000 miles), I stumbled on the Ranger while looking for a good late model used truck. I had totally forgotten that they were back in production (again....lack of advertising). I don't see a lot of Rangers on the road, but Mavericks everywhere. The Mavericks seem too small for my taste, not that i need a big truck. That and my OCD can't handle the offset license plate 😁. It seemed to me, that i could get more for my money with the ranger, than with F150s.

1000% !!! I'm not sure i could even ride in one for that very reason... hell , I won't even stay behind one on the road because it distractes me and I have to wonder why they did that ?
I also automatically disqualify any vehicle with the shark fin antenna on just one side and not centered...

That’s for Sprint Car racing.
