Mostly recovered. Lingering fatigue has been annoying. Things that shouldn't can wear you out and it doesn't have a rhyme or reason to it sometimes. Very weird. It can take up to a couple years or so to see what the recovery will be. I used to be able to just go and do things most of the day and be fine. It's like I have to pick and choose for the day if I want to feel like I'm close to 100% for that activity. Even then my endurance has suffered a lot. I can still ride my fat bike and mountain bike and still feel pretty strong doing it but I might be done for the day. I lift weights but do half of what I did before GBS as an energy saver. I can still be functional but if it requires too much effort I really rather just sit down. The other symptoms like the ataxia are all gone. My hands aren't quite 100% in strength but they are pretty good. I put a couple rounds through a Desert Eagle 50 AE at work a couple weeks ago and that was fine. Shooting my 1911 10mm last summer was okay but not like it was. I need to try it again here soon since I think it's better. I wasn't paralyzed or intubated like a friend of ours was last summer so I'm very fortunate there.
I’ll be in the same boat in a few years. I’ve had back issues for as long as I can remember. Went too hard playing hockey growing up, working construction since I was 16, and being too stubborn to ask for help… I’m paying for it now, two torn discs in my lower back that are always bothering me. Docs say I’m too young for surgery but at this point, it’s beyond healing by itself. They just keep telling me to ā€œtake it easyā€. If only I didn’t have bills to pay!
wtf is wrong with the doctors, I never heard of a patient being too young for back surgery hell they do it on babies. I don’t know how old Tiger Woods was when he when he had his first back surgery, but he was pretty young and he plays golf now anyway, I wish you a quick recovery. Perhaps you can get them to inject some Marcaine and solumedrol for the time being, anyway, I wish you the best on that I have an L1 and L2 disc problems. I’m waiting for an orthopedic consult. drink some Dos xx beer or Tecate and then you’ll feel better if you drink enough😜

Well i had a super super strange oddity after 26600k miles. It just stalled.

No check engine light. I was pulling out of my neighborhood. I thought, i turned my ass off. But the dash said put in park to turn on vehicle. This pic was taken after it happened.
Super weird. No clue what happened. It just stalled at the stop sign.
Seems just fine now. šŸ¤”

Computers sometimes have brain farts and need to reset. Hopefully that's all it was. Any updates overnight?? Who knows.

Glad to hear. Sounds like you are dealing with the after effects in a good way. Like one of my therapy ladies said to me.

That's the plan. Turning 60 in a couple weeks probably doesn't help me feeling energetic! šŸ˜‚

What I’ve been told by a couple docs is that with back surgery, there’s a higher chance something can go wrong or your body doesn’t respond the way they intend. That’s a risk with any operation but I guess it’s worse with your back just because of how invasive the operation is.

Because I’m only 33 and have a pretty active lifestyle, they don’t think it’s smart to do anything yet. I’m always in pain but so far, it’s semi-tolerable most of the time. Every now and then I’ll take an awkward step or move the wrong way and it feels like someone stuck a hot knife in my spine. Shooting pains up and down my back, weakness and tingling in my legs, can’t walk, hurts to breathe, sneezing or coughing feels like someone detonated a grenade in my back… Fun stuff lol

One of my coworkers in his 40s had an operation done a while ago (not sure what his issue was) and he hasn’t walked right since. He’s scheduled for another surgery to see if they can correct whatever they didn’t do right the first time. They called it a ā€œroto rooterā€? No clue what that means, not sure if I want to know lol

When I was 34, I got hit while on a traffic stop. Tore my back up pretty bad. Work comp kept declining everything. I fought the back and leg pain for almost 10 years until I got to the point my quality of life was so bad, I had to do something. Had surgery and I have been doing great for the last 12 years. Aggravated with myself for not having surgery sooner.

I know surgery is need for many instances but one thing I swear by is acupuncture but you have to have a good acupuncturist. They've got me through some serious motorcycle injuries and back pain over the years that that's my go to doctor. I had a really great one up in Phoenix and she really helped me through some bad hip and back pain to where I've never had it or had to go back and it's been over 12 years now and 100% pain free.

I will admit I hate Drs and western medicine and have had good luck treating things holistically for over 10+ years now. All my levels are perfect along with BP but we take a lot of spices and supplements which have helped us both avoid taking any meds. I had a home health checkup and they said to have all your meds out so they can go over them with you. I laughed and said that's easy I don't take any and she was shocked because she said the average is 5-7 for most visits.

Your story is similar to mine. Nagging lower back pain that would flair up sometimes and then ease up. I was also told that I was too young for back surgery when I was 40 something. Last August that nagging pain intensified and didn't let up. I had been riding my bicycle 60 miles a week but it got to the point that I couldn't get on or off without intense pain. Oddly enough if I could get on, I could ride relatively pain free but getting off was a real challenge. This time the Dr. said that the bulging disks were rubbing on the nerves and that surgery was the only viable option. I am 75 so being too young was no longer an issue. Almost three weeks post surgery and I am very optimistic for my recovery. It is a process, a marathon not a sprint. I am seeing progress but it is very slow. My surgery got delayed by some scheduling snafu so I went from August to February in pain. At one point I asked if an epidural would help with the pain. They gave me one and it eased the pain for about 3 weeks but then it came back with a vengeance. That may be an option for you to try. I have a friend that gets the shot every 3 or 4 months and he stays ahead of the pain. I can also tell you that the surgery "ain't no picnic" but if successful it will be worth it.
