Do you hang anything from your RVM?

Not a thing. I have a pass for the town dump in NC that I'm supposed to hang from the mirror, but it was designed for the old-school mirrors, not these fancy techno-gadget ones. I don't have enough clearance around the mirror or between the mirror and headliner to hang it even if I wanted to, so it stays in a pouch in the visor when I'm not in the area and in the dash pocket when I am.

One of the many things that allowed me to pull someone over to verify the operator was valid, not drunk, current registration, insurance, warrants and just to remind them of a few things we could always find to educate with, like attachments to the windshield/hangers off the mirror. I don't remember ever writing a cite for this, but I do remember the number of DUI, warrants (two wanted for murder), expired plates (one was the State Director of the Law Enforcement Academy, and he knew me by name) and important, valid insurance.

Secondary, those that have Disability hangers that didn't display a current one upon parking in a Handicap parking spot got a visit. Laying on the dash or in the glove box does not cut it, these I did write. Did you know Postal Vehicles are legal to park in a Handicap parking space.

The lesson here? Be in compliance.

I have the parking pass from a condo on Sanibel Island, FL. It was from our last visit right before Hurricane Ian shredded the island. We used to go to the condo almost annually. We’ve since been back, but the original condo association group sold out and some corporate realty group took it over. It’s similar, but still the feeling of a lifeless husk vs what it used to be. Something corporations are fantastic at doing. Extracting life and value from once beloved things.

Anyway, the parking pass hangs on my mirror as a tribute to memories of yesteryear.

The very reason I try not to do anything to get pulled over. Don't hang crap from my mirror, don't darken my windows, make sure all lights are working, don't speed, etc. etc. Just don't need what could only be a waste of time, or a ticket.

Think back to all my times of traveling with my SS# written right down the side of the ol' duffle bag. Hard to believe that at one point in time that was considered ok by the military. And we didn't think anything of it! Times do change.

Back in MA our drivers license number use to be your SS# and no one ever thought twice about it. Think of how many lost theirs with that info on it back then. I guess with no internet ID theft wasn't as big as it is now. What's worse was the SS office gave you the SS card that wasn't even laminated and you were supposed to keep it for life.

Semper Fi Marine. We carried 1800 Marines on the USS Iwo Jima LPH2 during that time. I spent 20 hours a day in the engine room., Machinist Mate Second class.

Thanks for the ride, but most did not like the flat bottomed ships. Was either the USS Belleau Wood or USS Peleliu in the Aleutian Islands when it was so rough. There was no food and people were tied into the racks 30 to 40 in a very small room. I enjoyed the ride like a wild roller coaster. Was also weird when we landed there was an abandoned AFB something like out of the Twilight Zone seemed like people just up and left.
You guys were lucky with the West PAC tours. They were nice, we got to do a small piece of one of those.

Ummm, never hit West PAC, Iwo came to the east coast to Norfolk just before I boarded, and we were all Med cruises. Operation Nimbus Star clearing mines in the Suez where the air coming in the vents was 100. 650 psi steam at 860 degree superheated. Pleasant working conditions 18-20 hours a day. Ah yes, the good ole days.

I think service should be mandatory 2 years for everyone men and women. Teaches a lot of discipline and can give you a better appreciation of what we have here in this country.

You are absolutely right on doing it again but am very glad I did cause it set me up for a very good career and retirement in nuclear power plant maintenance and management. (Surry Power Station)
You and I think alike on mandatory two years, minimum, something I have said for many years. Teach these brats some discipline.
I volunteered when a recruiter came to my high school in the spring of 1972, went in September that year. Then as I remember, the draft ended later that year or the middle of 73. Oh well.
