Opinion on stock Dynapro 18” including snow use

Deleted member 1634

We recently got about 34" over the long Thanksgiving weekend (10" on Wednesday and 24" Saturday-Sunday). And the truck did really well with the Hankooks on it. Not great in 2WD, though that could possibly be mended by putting some weight in the bed, not sure. But in 4WD it had no problems at all. No slippage, no problem stopping, no electronic intervention. Blew through a headlight deep plow bank to get out of the driveway yesterday afternoon and it had absolutely no problems in 4H. Expect the front slots and wheels getting packed with snow (see picture).

I think I've decided to keep running them for the rest of the winter, unless something drastically changes. And re-evaluate for next winter.

We had our first snow of the season. Not as much as you. About 6-8 inches over night.... the stock hankooks did really good. Except for climbing up my driveway unplowed. Could only get up about 1/3 of the short 3 car length driveway.

not sure what tires to buy if any. Hmmm

All terrains rated with a 3 peak mountain snow flake will help you out there. Off the top of my head BFG KO2's, General Grabbers, Falken Wildpeaks are all 3PMSF rated.

So we just got the east coast wonder known as persistent sleet accumulation here this last week, I had zero issue holding on steep grade declines on the cooper discover M+S, while many people were taking the express lane to the bottom of the hills if you get the drift, still had some slight issues in 2w drive trying to start in 5 inches of thick slush, but that was unweighted and kicking it into 4h solved that problem. since adding 3 sandbags just behind the wheel wells i havent had an issue in 2w drive, including driving to work this morning with a good thick sheet of ice from the freezing rain we are getting today.

I re affirm that given the right climate the Hankooks will serve fine, if you are looking at winters, I've had luck with the coopers, and I'm actually already looking at switching to Toyos for both sets of tires once these run their course (i3 ice for winter and A/T IIs for summer) but thats mostly due to the significant military discount program here.

Hmm, interesting. Have trouble in the driveway in 2WD or 4WD? In 2WD they are not too good. Kinda squirrelly and loose. But with all 4 digging I haven't had any trouble. Your driveway might be a bit steeper than I've experienced yet with my truck though.

I keep going back and forth between getting a dedicated set of snow tires for just the winter or a set of good A/Ts (either Falken Wildpeaks or Goodyear Duratracs for me) to wear year round. The Hankooks are good for highway travel and good enough for the minor off-roading I do, which leans me toward dedicated snows. Especially with how much highway/freeway driving we do during the summer, more rugged A/Ts will create more noise, lower mileage, and wear faster (even if it is just a little bit), and I probably won't utilize all their capability. But we'll see what I actually decide for next winter.

In the end I've noticed that there aren't many things much more effective than a light foot and some common sense for winter driving.

Yeah I was in 4high

so I bought a set of the Coopers actually (at3-s4) instead. They don’t look as aggressive as I was thinking. But in real life and mounted they look pretty good I have to admit, and my first white raised lettered tires too.

right away I noticed that the truck rides “better” maybe less bounce if that makes sense?!? And no snow yet to test - but leaving my local car wash no longer spins the tires ha. They don’t seem any louder but to be fair didn’t drive too much. Again they seem more “truck” like looking and I like them.

I took mine off at 200 miles. Went with the Firestone Destination XT. Wow what a difference. Anybody want some new Hankooks?

Finally got to drive the stock dyno pros in some 8-10inch snow. Did better than I thought. Going to drive them awhile longer until I figure out the tires I want to use with my Eibach lift. Probably bfg 285/70/17s.

with as much as people on here gripe about the Hankooks (I have 18's on mine), I don't find them all that bad. Haven't done much of anything on slippery roads at this point (2nd winter season with the Ranger), but they even did admirably on some offroading I did a few weeks ago. I've no doubt I can do better when I need to replace them, but I'm going to use them til they're done.

I think the complaints on the Dynapros aren't warranted either. When I had them on for the first 10k miles, I had no issues whatsoever with them. Really quiet, good mpg, great traction in inclement weather (deep snow included). They're probably better in the snow than other aggressive A/T tires since the Dynapros have so much siping to be honest. I can see them being a little wimpy on sharp rocks, but I would also argue that the Dynapros weren't designed for that - which is exactly why I bought a set of Falkens.

Yep, that's the most legit complaint I see with them. I can also see them being no good in mud. But again, not designed for that.

RETIRED!!!!
I am pleased so far with mine. Great ride, no noise and decent mileage. I have had several sets of Hankooks on different vehicles over the years. The worst set made it 55,000 and they were low profile tires. The others made it to around 70,000.

Yep, I forgot to mention mud. I drove my truck through thick, sloppy mud and they just got completely clogged. But I don't fault the tire, that's not what it was designed for.

Another vote for the Hankook Dynapros doing just fine in snow! I would like a little more aggressive "looking" tire but not until these are worn out!

Just curios what people’s opinions are on the stock Hankook 265/60-18 are? Not expecting snow grip and safety. But are they good or omg what did I do wrong moment ha.

don’t really want to replace them. But looking at Revo3 or Goodyear Duratrac in STOCK size ☺

any insight would be great.
I have them on my 21 STX 4x4. we just got 6" on snow last week, they drove fine, no issues at all.
most of the weekend left in in 2 Hi, only was in 4 Hi a few times. I do have about 300 lbs of weight in the bed, so i am sure that helps.
