I remember the first time (late 80's) I encountered love bugs down there. I was visiting a neighbor who moved to Lauderdale By The Sea and drove from my parents house on Marco Island and within a few miles the whole windshield was covered in this nasty things.
We were on Alligator Alley so it was 80 miles of dealing with them and trying to keep the windshield clean. We had a white Ford Escort for a rental and you'd swear from the front it was a black car because it was plastered with hundred (maybe thousands) of dead love bugs by the time we got there. lol I then realized while many locals has a netting/bra on the front of their vehicles there.
Yep, they’re nasty. Sid, @Msfitoy, we've discussed this in other threads, the occasional farm truck bath that mine gets. In all honesty, the main reason that mine stays dirty most of the time is that there are two sand hauling companies out here and I'm on the road with the drivers from each of those companies every day. I share the road with the drivers from McCraw Materials that is located on the East side of the Red River and the drivers from United Sand and Gravel located on the West side of the river as your heading toward Bonham.
