I am wondering if there is a blocked spline as there on many Fords, that precludes installing the steering wheel incorrectly at the the plant. If not a blocked spline, they why did not the dealer pull and reindex the wheel? I think something is bent in the steering system.

I would agree. Two different dealers have tried to reindex the wheel a total of 6 times now with no improvement. If anything it's gotten worse.

This is a photo of the angle at which the wheel needs to be held to drive straight. This on a straight, very flat road.

Hi Taylor,

Okay, so the wheel is able to be indexed...something I did not know. So the alignment needs to be done with the wheel indexed and the tie rods cranked in or out on each side to bring the toe into spec. Why on earth is this so hard? If I could help, I would as it can be done in my garage with parallel strings on jackstands...no fancy alignment fixture is necessary. Something is really wrong here...

Phil nailed it. What could possibly be the big deal here?

No clue but I've about had it dealing with this thing. Bought a new vehicle to replace my aging Subaru that was starting to need work but this thing has been in the shop more in the first 5 months than my Subaru has been in the past 5 years... Ford has already been billed over 6k in warranty work on it. How much more is it going to take? What does a new steering system run? Another 6k+? Ridiculous. Should've stuck with Subaru.

I know this doesn't help much, but there are a lot of people here on the forum that have had great luck with the new Ranger. I'm sorry you have had such bad luck with it. It certainly does seem like something significant is wrong with it and the dealer(s) you've taken it to haven't done a good job diagnosing the issue(s).

I hope things improve for you soon.

Well Ford rejected the second buy back claiming truck does not meet Utah state lemon law requirements of repair attempts or days out of service both of which are a complete lie. Truck has been out of service for 37 days since I bought it in June and over 10 trips to the dealer (6 of which for the exact same steering issue). I'm beyond frustrated and at a loss as to where to go from here. Will never buy another ford again.

Have you filed a complaint with the UT Division of Consumer Protection? That is the place to start.

just to be clear my truck is perfect. Just offering advice. Every state has a different lemon law process.

OMG!!! I feel terrible for you guys who are suffering from bad builds...

I feel so fortunate that I only have some paint anomalies...I'd get warranty work but rather have the original paint than a have a retouch that may be potentially worse and not as durable...

Yes, I did that before the first buy back request was submitted. Appreciate it.

Oh my paint is far from perfect but thats the least of my concerns. Definitely sloppy around the doors.

lets be clear on your "never buy a Ford again" claim.
I'm sure thats an overreaction to your problem and pretty generalized. I can understand your frustration though. Ford builds great products as many other manufacturers do as well. They also build lemons...all of them.

I think, if you haven't already, should change that statement to "never going to that dealer again"

Take it elsewhere, take it to an alignment shop. Theres no reason why this cant be fixed. You've simply gone to the wrong doctor.
Very well stated

An overreaction to 37 days out of service and 10 trips to two dealership in the first 5 months? Easy to say when your truck has not had dozens of issues and continues to have things go wrong on it...

Two different ford dealerships can't fix the issue. They are both incompetent? Ok possibly but hard to believe...

I understand all manufactures have lemon every once in awhile but it's ford's unwillingness to help or replace the vehicle and flat out lies that prompted that statement. Build quality is sub par to say the least. Door panel falling apart, trim coming off, electrical issues, steering issues...

Have you spoken directly to Ford? There's a complaint system where you might be able to speak to an engineer (I think, or someone who knows what the hell your problem might be). Sounds to me like the dealer is incompetent at diagnosing this issue so you should move beyond them. However they should have given you the contact info to talk directly to Ford. This is an obvious problem and it's in Ford's best interest to make you whole. Especially in the age of social media.

I have spent hours on the phone with ford directly.

The vehicle qualifies for lemon law in the state of Utah. Ford has flat out lied and said its only been in service for 18 days not 37. Proof in the service records straight from the dealer. Maybe they can't do simple math, but added up its totals 37 days. Most of the issues have been fixed, yes. But the major issue is the truck does not steer straight and that has not been fixed. Was told "thats as good as its gonna get" by two dealers... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but when I buy a brand new truck I expect it to steer straight. Maybe thats just me though...

Very odd, it's not like they can't see the problem unlike an intermittent issue. You could send the CEO an email with your complaints, it has worked before. This one thinks he's a genius who can lead the way with technology but they can't even make a truck that drives straight?

That is just a total crock. A brand new truck (even an OLD truck) should steer straight - it shouldn't be that hard to fix.

Dealers range from AWESOME to "I can't believe they are still in business". Sounds like you have gotten two of the latter unfortunately.
