Truck has around 100k miles if the new engine lasts but something else goes out, or it gets into an accident, it would still need repair. I’ve literally played this game putting new or factory reman parts in a vehicle and then something happened right after…like tree fell on it…and that $10k just went right down the drain!
I felt that way with my coolant flush and oil change less than 500 miles before the engine failed at 50k miles. Could have saved me some money if I was not to good about the maintenance intervals lol. At least I was still under Ford's power train warranty.

In response to some of the questions.

I have been quoted a head gasket repair and a replacement motor from several shops. The price was about 2k difference with the caveat that there might be lower block damage.

After doing some digging here on the forum and online I have found that Ford did redo the motor by boring some cooling holes between the cylinders. This was done after all the issues with the 2.3 in the mustang, focus rs, and transit. Sadly, the cooling holes mean more reliability when everything is running smooth, but if you do overheat the block there is that much less material and potential warping issues.

My truck is a 19 and has 99k on it. I would like to keep the truck long term, but am worried now. The 30k motor and new motor are both infants compared to the milage of the truck.

I am leaning more toward the 30k but still up in the air.

Looks like Transmissions at 60K and motors at 100K, For me, never another Ford.

Taking a poll if you fellas don't mind.

TLDR: Blown head gasket and slight overheating on the motor. Repair shops and Ford have quoted me price for motor replacement. Ford says $7600 for new motor no miles, repair shops have quoted $5500 for motor with 30k miles. Let me here your opinion pleae.
For the price difference I'd go with the new motor. At a 30 mile start the miles will rack up fast. I'm mean in another 30k you'll be at 60 k

Unfortunately, they all have issues. If you want a mid-sized truck, I guess the options are Ford, GM, Toyota, Jeep and Nissan. Are any of them actually better? In the past, it would have been a good bet to say Toyota and Nissan would have been more reliable. I think the statistics are showing those days are over. I guess you could jump to Jeep or Nissan to get away from the turbo, but both are on the verge of bankruptcy. Good luck!

Nissan has had no problems keeping the reliability thing(assuming we are not talking about the CVT). The Frontier has been proven for years and the current body doesn't have the issues that other Manufacturers are seeing(aka shit Transmissions and Engines). Also when you look at the new truck market, the Frontier is the only one on the Market that has decided to keep things as basic as possible while adding some of the luxurious items. Keeping things on the basic side is how you keep things reliable.

The last time I checked, the Nissan Frontier sales were down significantly this year. So, you could probably get a good deal on one. The real issue with the Frontier is not the truck, but rather the company. They are in a big financial trouble and who knows what will happen to them. They probably should have taken the offer from Honda.
