You don't know what that used engine saw on 30K miles and what condition it is in. Might last 100K, might last 10K, no way of knowing.

Some folks may drive them gently. And others, well they probably drive them like I drive rentals.
So assuming worst case, it was abused and redlined and driven by a Baja racer (unlikely as 90% of the trucks out there probably are going to see fleet or daily driver use), he could save the $2000 and keep it in a high yield savings account IF the motor goes. If it doesnāt, heās $2k ahead. If it goes in 10k then you might have to cough up $3500. But in all reality, the chance of having the 1 in a thousand that was redlined daily is probably low. These arenāt 350Zās or Subaru STIās or other āfrequently abusedā cars. You don't know what that used engine saw on 30K miles and what condition it is in. There are several questions that must be asked.Taking a poll if you fellas don't mind.
TLDR: Blown head gasket and slight overheating on the motor. Repair shops and Ford have quoted me price for motor replacement. Ford says $7600 for new motor no miles, repair shops have quoted $5500 for motor with 30k miles. Let me here your opinion pleae.
Go new. For example, my 2021 toasted a rod bearing at 50k miles and I did 5k full synthetic oil changes. GRANTED, it is super rare, I would not trust a 30k motor from a truck to only save $2k because if you get a bad motor, you wont know immediately and even if you did, likely your out more money than planned.Taking a poll if you fellas don't mind.

Your reply is right on. You just don't know what the used engine has been subjected to.Go new. For example, my 2021 toasted a rod bearing at 50k miles and I did 5k full synthetic oil changes. 8. Become very religious and pray that the used engine does not have a bowel movement. There are several questions that must be asked.
1. Is it between 2019 and 2025.
2. How many miles are on the truck, if you have to buy an engine you must be over 60,000 and out of warranty.
3. Do you owe on the truck?
4. Are you that happy with it that you want to keep it several more years to recoup the 5,500 to 7,600 dollar investment?
5. What would the dealer give you as a trade in on a new Ranger?
6. Have you had the usual transmission failure yet?
7. I think you answered your own question when asking if it is worth the extra 2 grand or not. If you are keeping the truck for 4 or more years go with the new engine, less than 3 go with the used engine and if you have to get one of those Endurance warranties to quell your fears.

Whatever you do, do not buy one of those Endurance or CarShield warranties. From experience, they will deny everything. Alternator goes out, the contract says itās covered, but āthe brushes wore outā is the diagnosis and therefore itās excluded due to wear and tear clause. Window wonāt roll down, contract says itās covered, but the āmechanism wore out and snappedā therefore itās not covered either. Have an engine or transmission problem? Mustāve overheated or been a pre existing condition. They donāt cover internal clutch pack wear or valve body wear either. If anyone can actually get a legitimate claim out of these folks Iād be shocked.7. I think you answered your own question when asking if it is worth the extra 2 grand or not. Wow, I've never had an extended warranty except for the ones the dealer provided, I'm 68 and the 1st one I ever bought was for this Ranger last year. 1st Ford I've owned in 32 years, the other was for a 2019 Honda Pilot we purchased this year, the dealer threw in a 2 year warranty free of charge) . I thought they were all the same but i guess it's all about making the almighty buck!Whatever you do, do not buy one of those Endurance or CarShield warranties. I think the one you are thinking about is an F150 or Chevy issue where the tires lock up? "Thankfully"6. Usually transmission failure?
Is this the power train fault that randomly pops up when I am doing 70 on the hwy? I've tried to track the issue but it resets itself when I turn the truck off.
For me it seems like if I've owned a car for over 24 months and put new tires on it something will happen in the next 6-12 months.Truck has around 100k miles if the new engine lasts but something else goes out, or it gets into an accident, it would still need repair. Iāve literally played this game putting new or factory reman parts in a vehicle and then something happened right afterā¦like tree fell on itā¦and that $10k just went right down the drain!
