Hi guys,

I am planning to do one last cosmetic upgrade to the truck this fall and im looking at swapping out factory halogens for some nice LED headlights. I mainly and wanting to get new housings that have a nice LED strip on them that look nice when running during the day. At the price point, I really like the Alpha Rexx Pros and the blacked out look but am hesitant because theyre not fully LED but kind of nice that you can replace bulbs when needed. I am leaning more towards the Anzo LED headlights though because I like the look and they are fully LED from what I can tell.

Ive looked through about every thread I could find on these two headlights but wondering if you guys that may have them would have some additional pictures I could see? Also one other question - I am not sure I would install them myself, so how much should I expect if I pay someone to do the install?

Thanks a bunch,
Derek

Ball Park 4 to 5 hours of labor - so 300 to 600 in labor depending on the shop (installer)
Its not hard to do just time consuming as you are dealing with brittle plastic tabs.

Good to know, thanks for the info! Definitely will be watching a few videos to see if I can do it myself. If its on the lower end of that range that doesnt sound too bad if I had someone do it though.

Not difficult to install, just time consuming as there is a lot of disassembly.

I have the Anzos.

Heres a taste of how deep you have to dig.

I have the Anzos. My local custom jeep/off-road shop installed them for about $450. I weighed how long it would have taken ME and figured it was a bargain ?

Does look quite time consuming! Did you do it outside? I dont have a garage so if I do it, itd have to be a nice day out lol.

As far as installing them are they as people describe "plug n play" or would I need to worry about any wiring type of tasks? I hear people talking about wiring a DRL harness, not sure if that applies here?

I did them in my driveway. I don't remember exactly how long it took but it wasn't bad at all.

Mine were plug and play, but then I don't have DRLs.

Overall quite easy.

I'm very much a do it myself person so I'll tackle just about anything .

That way I know it's done right, and if it's not done right I know who to blame ?

You paid more for the install than I paid for the lights.

But, on topic. I think the Anzo LED lights are great. I'm still against the Alpha Rex lights as long as they force the side reflector there is is not needed on the Ranger as long as you keep the OE side marker on the wheel well trim.

I installed the Luxx series from Alpha Rex . The most $ I ever spent, but 4 yrs later so glad I did it. The OE halogens were a joke. I never wanted to be bothered with bulbs again. Light output is double what it was. If you can get used to the dancing led's , you'll be golden. (only negative)
Really attractive headlights in my opinion. Looks modern. I installed myself so I saved by that, but shop for your budget. anything is better than it was.
I was a pro at this and it still took 4+ hours because I was taught never force anything and take time &mental notes and pictures along the way. I also installed smoked LED side markers and LED fog light bulbs to compliment the Luxx's. My passengers are amazed at the visibility on those dark NC roads. Good luck on your cosmetic upgrade to the truck!

Yeah I feel the same, I like that the Anzo lights are all LEDs. Do you like them so far since you have intsalled them? Did you have to do any modifications on them to get them set up how you like or just straight plug n play?

Yep, I was the guy that found them at some ridiculous discount at their site and let everyone know. I was under $400 for the purchase for sure ?

Yes, they were nearly plug and play for my XLT and worked how they should. I say nearly plug and play because they do want to you had a constant +12V connection at the battery and run that to both lights. The only mod I did make was adding an extra wire where they left an open hole in the seal for what would have been the lariat DRL signal. I figured that would help prevent any water starting corrosion inside the connector later. I did have the right most top bolt for my headlight snap off while removing it.

Yeah, it was a good deal, even better with self install. I think I was right at $420 for the lights. I guess you had an extra discount. I guess I used the money saved on the install to buy the DiodeDynamic LED fog lights. My tow mirrors are still the most pricey function improvement, second only to the Thunder badges, grill and the black RANGER letters to get my US version of the Ranger Thunder. Oh, wait, I bought the FP exhaust too, but I think that was still cheaper than the Thunder stuff.

Just a few quick questions. Did you have to turn the trucks DRLs off in the IPC menus to stop your XLT from using the low beams as DRLs? Do the DRL bars come on as soon as you start the truck, no matter where you have the light switch? One more, do the DRL bars come on bright during the day and dim down when the headlights come on?

I have some theories on how they are controlling the DRLs and the need for the extra power tap. Wanted to see how the Anzos worked compared to my Morimoto clones from Cloplus.

Can't speak for the Anzo Lights, but I did have the AlphaRex Luxx Headlights. In general they were good, but the color of the light made it extremely tough to drive in Heavy Fog and Snow. The distance was good. The width was not so great. Because of all this I went back to the OEM Lights.

Now with my 2012 Frontier I decided to stick with the OEM Lights and also have a set of IPF 968's with 100 Watt H3 Bulbs that turn on with the High Beams and some nice Fog Lights from ARB using the H3 Bulbs that came with them in my ARB Deluxe Bull Bar. To say the least I have more than enough light up front for my needs.

The little white lights under the Headlights are the LED Markers on the Bull Bar BTW.

The DRL on the Anzo only operate when the truck requests DRL, and when DRL are requested they are brighter. And when using turn signal the DRL at the blinking assembly disables until a moment after the signal ends. I have DRL on in Auto, but off in Off and they work as intended. When the parking lights are on the DRL are on, but not as bright. I had many of those same concerns when I bought them and Anzo support even mis-informed me of how they would work. But, I hooked them up to see what they did factory before looking into adding control relays inline of my own. I was pleasantly surprised when they worked perfect out of the box.
