I think I've figured it out...

1) If I choose to continue with the roof light bar idea: All I will need is a $200 bracket kit,,, a $225 curved single row 50" light bar,,, and a $150 air dam... $575 !!! with no guarantee that the wind noise issue will go away.

-or-

2) Screw that crap and upgrade my pod lights for @ $150 (after return credits)

I wonder if you could first test out the deflector theory with tape and cardboard.

I agree, they are awfully proud of the piece of whatever for $100+!!!

You know,,, I don't need this thing at all really. I've just always wanted a roof light bar on a truck. But my F-it Meter is maxed out on this project. Too many unexpected twists & turns.

I can return 3 purchases tomorrow for @ $150.
Then buy the new hyper-lights to replace my cubes for @ $225... and nearly double my front light power.

And, the larger, more powerful, single pod (with side shooters) will sit lower & tighter to the hood & glass because I can toss out the double-light brackets. I've always felt like my current dual pod setup is too high and wide.

AND,,, they wire into my turn signals !

Then, I would need to sell all the leftovers on here or Ebay (four 4" 6-mode LEDS, and dual pod brackets).

Hi TF,
Great to hear back from you. We’re always happy to help.
Please see our responses to your questions below:
  1. Is that kind of wind noise "common" with roof light bars?
Wind noise is not common if the light bar is installed correctly using the appropriate mounting brackets. A proper fitment typically minimizes or eliminates any noise altogether.
  2. Does this air dam thing actually work to solve the wind noise issue?
The wind noise usually comes from the cooling fins at the back of the light bar. It’s often just one or two fins vibrating as wind passes through. While air dams can help in some cases, a more reliable and cheaper solution is to apply small dots of black silicone between the fins—starting with a vertical row down the center of the bar (from top to bottom). If the noise persists, add additional dots on the left and right sides of the light bar.
Only small dot sizes are needed—avoid running silicone along the entire length of the fins.
Alternatively, you can use wedges made from a firm rubber compound between the fins instead of silicone. Both methods are effective at stopping the vibration that causes the noise as air flows through.
Let me know how you go, or if you’d like any further guidance.
Best regards

Don't take this the wrong way, just to help you troubleshoot your lighting needs, maybe you feel you need more lighting because the ones on the truck are not very bright?

There is a difference from cheaper pod LED and high end ones. There is a guy around here in a taco that ALWAYS drives with his ditch lights on and lower pod lights on. I have even seen him at night. His lights suck because they don't even make me squint and by the light on the road, I can tell they are cheap generic lights. Maybe he also just had a 2 stage light that can toggle brightness, but man he sure loves his lights on public roads with street lights.

My Baja Design Squadron Sport seem way better than his and there is a Pro model above that alongside their race series which I think output even more lighting. What I like about my squadron is that I can buy different lenses to do flood lighting, direct lighting or a mix of both (later what I use). I have mine mounted low. I might add ditch lights to the truck but not sure I want to use my second set of Squadron, may go their S2 for ditch lights just to get light out to the sides.

With the lights I have down low (as shown) it covers my needs 90% of the time. The other 10% is really just wishing I had more light out the sides rather than in front of me. I also do not plan on going 60mph off-road, then I would want more lighting. Maybe the Squadron Pro as ditch lights and Pro down low too rather than Sport.

My Auxbeams seem plenty bright as is. I could never turn them on against oncoming traffic. These WILL blind you. I was gonna add a light bar for hunting and because I liked the look. But screw it because of the noise and because of what it would cost to "potentially" make the noise go away. But I do want to upgrade to more powerful hood pods. Because,,, I want a lower more compact setup and,,, 'merica !!!

Now I gotta watch it again.
The opening fight scene against the terrorist had me laughing out loud till I cramped up.

A little late to the post haha but for the air dam you could get that black plastic garden trim and attach it some how and see if it works it's cheap and a good way to test stuff out. I used to use that garden trim as a airdam on my front splitter of my time attack car to seal the splitter against the bumper and remove any air gabs for aerodynamics.

Smart idea. But I no longer feel the need for a roof light bar since I upgraded my hood LEDs. That roof light bar project was getting too costly and was altering the look of the truck too much.
