Is Ford's Bluecruise coming to the 2026 Ranger?

Given the constant babysitting I need to do with the ”intelligent” cruise in my 2024 Ranger, I’m a bit hesitant to let Bluecruise take the wheel. The lane keeping is decent, but the truck seems to have a real problem misreading speed limit signs - either it reads an exit ramp sign when I’m not exiting and slows me down on the freeway, or a few times it’s jacked up the speed to 120 kmh even though there is no road in this province that high. Irony is, I just spent a month in New Zealand driving a Fiat-based RV with a similar system and I don’t think it screwed up once, when I came home I was a bit disappointed I’m my Ranger. Hard to say Stellantis does anything better, but in this case it might be true. I’d be interested to see if any of our ROW Ranger owners have similar issues.

OK, you have a 6G Ranger. This is a forum for the 5G Ranger and mostly North American. None of ours has the ability to adjust the cruise via the speed limit signs.

I do see you issue though. When a relatively simple cruise control messes up how can you trust a self driving system. It is scary what people might decide to do while whizzing along at highway speeds. Especially among other drivers doing stupid things.

My CX-5 has a tattletale monitor built into it. Found it by chance. Stopped at a light for 3 minutes at 2AM with not a car in sight anywhere... No one behind me, across from me, or coming towards the intersection in either direction. I finally just ran it. My car beeped at me and flashed a red banner. I did not catch the message, but I knew why it beeped.

The next day I set out to find how to disconnect the cellular modem. Found it and pulled the antenna. The thing has 3 of them!

I get a DTC telling informing me that the antenna is disconnected.

I find it comforting!

That might not be a Stellantis vs. Ford thing, it might be an infrastructure thing. I have no idea if NZ is that much more advanced than Canada in deploying the kind of infrastructure needed to operate this kind of tech to the maximum of its capability, but given how much less landmass they have to cover, it seems pretty reasonable to me that this would be just as likely a culprit as saying one car company bested another in a tech that no one seems to have really figured out yet.

Dear Ford,

You've clearly misunderstood what makes driving fun.

If you find driving stressful, maybe it's because you or the idiots around you never learned how to drive properly. I find driving to be a relaxing experience, except when I'm in rush hour traffic with a bunch of imbeciles that never learned how to drive properly thinking that getting to their destination 18 seconds faster is the most important thing in the world. Not that I generally get too stressed out about it, because I actually know what I'm doing and have good situational awareness.

Honestly, having AI take over the driving for me would stress me out a hell of a lot more than driving myself, no matter what the conditions are like. I just wouldn't trust that whomever programmed the AI 1) actually knows how to drive anything other than a computer, and 2) actually considered all of the possible variables as opposed to just the most statistically likely, either because of 1) above or because they had to build the program in a timeline dictated by minimizing costs and maximizing profit.

What would reduce my stress is to completely eliminate automatic transmissions and replace them entirely with manual, because at least when the driver is using all four limbs to operate the gas, brake, clutch, steering wheel and shifter, they don't have a spare limb left to f*ck around on their toys.

As for BlueCruise, thanks, but no thanks. I have zero interest in this self-driving nonsense.

Sincerely,
Someone who actually learned how to drive properly.

I will not be using autopilot.. I have lane keeping on the Ranger, found out how to turn it off on accident (thankfully) never been in since.. I’ve been driving for 30 years and only been in 3 collisions only one was my fault no one got hurt at all.. the cars were barely even scratched (but it’s still a collision.).. my opinion is this will just make people who don’t respect the skill of driving, lose even more respect for the skill.

I come from the era of "three on the tree and vent windows", and can barely navigate my 2021's features !!!!!!!
What the hell is Bluecruise ??????????
Subscription-based cruise control, It came with my Explorer .The hardware is standard with no delete option, and the subscription is no charge for the first three years. It does have regular cruise control, and you can set that as the default from the menu, but it chimes three times and it displays a message that standard cruise control is selected. Every fucking time you turn it on. it's time to get Forscan.

CORRECTION: BlueCruise trial subscription is 3months.

Yes officer, I was drinking a beer while I was behind the wheel. But when my truck hit those 5 parked cars, the Bluecruise was in charge of the truck...not me !!!

Actually it requires you to have your hands on the wheel at all times. If you remove them, after awhile you get a warning message. I think the Lincoln version might allow hands free, and auto lane changing. Some GM versions do, too.

See...There you go! If you remove your hands from the wheel, you get warned...."Put Hands On Wheel Or Else I Will Ram Into Wall" ! or, "Put Hands On Wheel Or Else I Will Rear End Semi In Front Of Me" !
Is it gonna throw a tantrum and stop in the middle of an X-Way while doing 70 mph ???
Warnings now....but self awareness is next !!!
What other proof do you all need ???
