I bought my 2022 ranger a year ago with 8000 miles, 18" wheels, 285/65-R18 tires, and a fully stock motor (and a spotless service history). I grabbed the keys and took off on a 3000 mile road trip. The truck ran GREAT averaging 27 mpg at 75 mph.

I went on a modding rampage as soon as I got home. Exhaust, intake, intercooler & pipes, and Tune. My truck ran infinitely better with a (expected) drop in fuel economy. My Ranger makes plenty of power for my aggressive driving style. *aggressive... not dangerous* I have my fun on empty roads and off road. But I will use 3rd gear to launch me to cruising speed. And it sounds good doing it.

But,,, my average mpg is @ 11. I took a 380 mile road trip yesterday driving @ 75-80 mph and got 17.8 mpg. That sucks dong !

What are the rest of you, with tuned engines, getting for mpg ?

Results will vary for all. For my 2019 I had it tuned right around the time I installed the Old Man EMU Lift and 32's. With it I got up to 27 MPG a few times with the Livernoise Tow Tune. Later on I had 33's and still managed to stay in the low to mid 20's as long as I tried.

For my current vehicle (2012 Frontier) I tend to be around 15-18 depending on conditions and what I'm doing.

Spirited driving typically involves lots of fuel consumption ?.
my 2005 Mitsubishi evolution GSR got maybe 13 mpg on a good day ? so 17+ is basically good fuel economy…with spirited driving that is…
It is a truck brother 4500# vehicle pushed around by a 2.3L inline boosted 4cyl..
The fact this thing gets around 20mpg in stock form is pretty impressive considering.. but that’s just my thoughts.

Ford performance tune here and did not notice any change in MPG. Always been in between 20-25 mpg on highway depending on speed and weather conditions. Getting a 1" lift and 33s soon. Now my mpg will take a hit.

FPP Tune, 3/4" level and Continental Terrain Contact AT's in 265/70x17. I get 18 around town with lots of stop and go, 20+ on twisty mountain roads and when I go down to Phoenix, a 220 mile round trip with about a 5000 foot elevation change, about 24, depending on speed. I will say, the difference pre tune between 65 mph and 75 mph is a good 3 - 4 mpg.

So... of all the responses I've seen, my MPGs are the worst.

For shits sake.... I've never owned a vehicle that could get more than 12 mpg. I was really hoping the Ranger would be the exception.

I may park my Roush and buy an "un-modified" used XL as a daily driver. And save the Roush for when I don't care about fuel economy.

I have the FP tune. On my daily commute with highway and in town driving I get around 22mpg. If I'm on an all highway road trip I get around 29mpg.

Looks like you have big wheels/tires... I'm guessing that's killing your fuel economy.

FPP 93 Tune here I have a stock height 4wd sport with that i upgraded to the stock 265/65/17 fx4 tire size and recalibrated the speedometer to be dead on instead of 2 mph faster. run 93 octane fuel; only engine mods are the tune, velossa wide mouth intake inlet and the AFE replacement pipe from on front of the airbox.

Mixed 22.5

...and I wanted to go bigger (305/65-r18). But the idea of getting 7-8 mpg is discouraging.

FPT and I get about 16 around town and 20 on the highway ??‍♂ ... small motor, yes, but it's being worked hard so the numbers it's putting out are pretty impressive if you think about it. 16/20 are pretty good I don't really understand these desires to get the hybrid civic numbers out of the same motor.

I don't know about you, but mine is moving some weight too. Rack, RTT, sliders, armor, gear that's stored on the rack or in the bed, etc. I keep track of how it eats away my payload with a spreadsheet, and it's about a third of the total right now, FYI. It's not hard to do without realizing it and that's BEFORE people get in.

Then people wonder why a 4cyl isn't moving a giant heavy vehicle AND getting good mileage at the same time...

Consider what you're asking of your engine. I'm tickled it costs me like $50 to fill it up and it still has enough ass to move this truck around like it's a has a much bigger engine than it does.

My $0.02

I had a lifted 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4 door with 3.5" lift and 37's. Big difference is wheel/tire weight. The 37x12.5/20's that came on it weighed 129 lbs. each. I replaced them with 37x12.5/17's that were 93 lbs. each. Mileage went up about 4 MPG.
