You were correct. I edited my post .
How much did your dealer charge you for the repair? I want to make sure I’m not getting screwed here. Why am I being charged 3k more just for the transmission? Total quote now is 10.5k for me.

I’ll have to ask if they price match?

My new transmission has been in the truck for a couple of weeks now, but so far, so good. My new job has me driving mostly highway speeds for about 60 miles round trip. When it's warm, it shifts like the original did before the issues I had. Cold can have some noticeable shifts like the older transmission designs. Too soon to tell if there will be issues.

Unless Ford is paying for 50%, that amount of labor is nuts. What are they charging, +10hrs? Sheesh just a trans.

If I were looking at any repair over $5k out of pocket, I would be getting quotes on trade in value and weighing my options. Assuming it is paid off, you would be able to make a good dent in any new truck purchase you get.

Then I would also find the highest quality 3rd party shop in town and get a quote to do the trans. I would say 6hrs labor is understandable but any more than that is starting to REALLY push it. Realistically, I bet a good tech can do it in 2-3hrs.

I haven’t seen the breakdown yet. I’m interested to see how they explain this markup. I’m assuming right now is they’re charging a warranty price and for some reason that’s inflated? Ford Warranty/corporate said they would split the payment 40/60 with me paying 60% but without that it seems I would’ve paid the same price? I’ll update here once I get answers.

Was this done at a dealer or 3rd party? Looks like yours is the 2WD transmission but cost is basically the same on ford.com

edit: I see Snider is a transmission shop. This is basically what every local dealership quoted me before I mentioned Ford offering assistance. For some reason the price jumped up once I called back saying they agreed to cover 40%.

Originally every local dealership quoted $7.5k before I mentioned Ford assistance last month. Now when I called this month with assistance it’s $10.5k.

My truck is rwd and I took it to a third party shop. They did a couple of transmissions for my parents 15-20 years ago, one of which is still on the road while the other was unfortunately totaled about five years ago. I was fortunate that I had a third party warranty which covered the repair. The shop said it was my torque converter that failed and was sending metal through the transmission. Not sure how true it is but 4 no longer slips nor do any of the others so I’m happy.

Typically warranty is cheaper than customer pay work. Generally at a dealer, for customer pay work (out of warranty) it is something like:

(warranty time x 1.5)= hours charged to customer

That is how we did it at Benz because at least then, warranty time sucked. The tech could get in trouble if they quoted more for a job without good reason. Was just talking to my buddy the other day and he said they do that at VW too but I forgot their markup percentage.

So it seems the dealers are taking advantage further perhaps because Ford is covering part of it, at least that is what it sounds like. What other reason could the price jump be from? I can tell you that while I love my truck, I have not felt the same about the dealer experiences I have had with my dealer, enough that I am not sure I would buy another Ford.

Update: Finally got my truck back and after arguing dealership ended up giving me a new transmission all in for $4.2k from my pocket.

For those trying to go through the same good luck and YMMV. My dealership was very adamant about the pricing saying that is the warranty cost and that ford assistance requires them to charge the warranty price.

The same warranty price that they increased when they found out that ford was paying for part of the repair?
