Test drove and got numbers on two trucks last night. I don't have the exact numbers on hand, but I think this is pretty close:

2019 F150 XLT 4WD extended cab, 6.5 bed, 3.3L 6 speed auto, Oxford White
302a option package
Chrome package
Tow package
Running boards
3.73 locking diff
approx. $33,000

2019 Ranger XLT crew cab 4WD Oxford White
302a option package
Chrome package
Tow package
Sport appearance package
Running boards
approx. $35,000

I really like both trucks, but as I've read many comments here, the F150 is soooo big. I think I'd be able to fit in my garage, barely, if I rearrange some work benches, etc. I do like the cavernous interior and the the large bed.

The ranger has more bells and whistles, and I like the powertrain and how it handles. Nice to have a more compact package - more manageable. I live in the frozen north, and the truck will be used for typical suburban homeowner stuff, commuting, and towing a small enclosed trailer with a Harley in it when I need to get away from here in the winter.

Seems a little strange that the bigger truck is cheaper, I imagine Ford wants to maintain its sales leadership in full size trucks. I assume people here will say Ranger, but please give me a reasoned argument why I should pay more for that truck. I appreciate the feedback.

How did V6 engine feel? This would be key for me.
Did you like the F150 ride?
I like how ranger handles on small roads and on interstate.
F150 huge. Depends on needs.

The 3.3L V6 and 6 speed were surprisingly smooth and quiet, and the power was pretty decent. i haven't had a truck in a while, my last one was a '99 Silverado with a 4.3L V6 (195 hp, if memory serves), and the 3.3 is a huge improvement over that. From my reading, it sounds like the 3.3 is a solid workhorse, and fits my needs just fine. The ride was very nice, but it didn't handle as nicely as the Ranger.

I think it is only a question you can answer. The F-150s are nice trucks but they are HUGE - that can be a good or a bad thing depending on your needs and wants. I wouldn't want an F-150 - it is too big for me. But for others they are just perfect.

I didn't realize they still offered a non turbo V6 on the F-150. I think you will miss the 10 speed - that transmission is awesome.

3.3L V6 is 290 hp @ 6500 rpm and 265 ft-lbs. @ 4000 rpm. Compare that to 270 HP and 310 ft-lbs in the 2.3L EcoBoost.

Towng and payload numbers are very similar as well.

It comes down to do you want a bigger truck than the Ranger with similar performance numbers?

In this case, size matters.

Just sayin.

Yup, sometimes bigger isn't always better!

OP I've had many F 150's over the years,8 to be exact and I really have no need for that large of a truck now. The Ranger is the perfect size inside and out and seeing as it's going to be used mostly as a DD and some light towing I think you'd be happy with it. Take a look through the forum in the towing section and you'll see many have towed some good size boats and campers through the mountains with ease. I've never had all this technology before and now that I've had it I wouldn't buy another without it. Much easier to maneuver through the city streets and through the trails if you go off road with it. Good luck and come back and let us know what you decide. :)

You need it now? Then F150.
If you can wait for the 2.7L v6 bi-turbo 2021 Ranger, then wait for that!
Mine will be up for a refresh when that engine is available!!

Weight of each vehicle?
Sounds like Ranger would be quicker.

Why would anyone get the 3.3L VCT when the better 2.7L ecoboost is available for F150 (other than the few $$ cost diff)?

What Ford is facing now is self destruction of the "F150 best truck" sales claim, because the 2021 Ranger with v6 engine option will take away a lot of F150 sales !! But, overall still good for Ford shareholders.

The 5G and 6G Rangers are fairly big pup's. The full size have just gotten ridiculous (unless you REALLY need that).
