2021 XLT FX4 Transmission fail @ 68000 no ESP

Just had new transmission installed. I have no ESP.
Truck never tows, mostly DD highways, limited trail use. Bone stock.
- First noticed issues at 65000. Hard shifts between 1st & 3rd. Slipping in 2nd.
- Took to dealership... no faults found. Told to warm up truck
- Issues still present after warming truck, so back to dealership for fluid change.
- One week later wrench icon displayed, power train failure.
- Took back to dealership, informed transmission needs replacing, quote 8500-9000
- Contacted Ford customer care, they worked with dealership.
- Total cost to diagnose & replace transmission 11,858.41
- Ford covered 4980.53

Sorry you had to go through this. The fact that Ford wont step up to this known issue is just sickening.

Wow, that total cost is big time. But glad they worked with you. I am just coming up on 60k. How does it drive now?

It's a shame the earlier tranny's are shit.

Gotta remember though.. a new tranny is 4x cheaper than a new truck.. taxes.. increased tag fees.. Insurance..

Seems like maybe an inflated cost on the total or are they getting that much more expensive?

Why were you $12k in for a trans swap? Mine was 7k before my discounts. I got it to $6500 and ford covered $4400. You are the second person I have seen this week say an outrageous number.

The 5gs have been out long enough for all the common issues to come to light... Besides the pre 22.5 transmissions now being a somewhat obvious imminent failure point... Theres no reason to assume these trucks won't be 200k+ mile rigs as long as they get maintained and don't get trashed to death.

Appreciate all the details. I have car shield now just to protect against this on my 2019 lariat, 2wd. Two questions; anyone have car shield and how did it go? AND, why did ford pay anything towards his trans since he did not have an ext warranty?

Took mine to the Dealership Wednesday .Hard shifting ,missing gears, clanking into reverse when cold, lots of surging going uphill.
2020 w/38k all highway miles. Probably hear from them next week.

We all have the same symptoms in these trucks and everything usually leads to a new or rebuilt transmission either covered by Ford or out of pocket. They built a shitty truck and pawned it off to us.

I love my truck but if its not dependable , it will be gone ! I won't spend that kinda money on an old truck . With health issues I can no longer work on vehicles .
