2019 Ranger Engine made sludge

I was hoping they would of showed the intake side of valve on this video, but no such luck. Still a cool video and speaks well of the 2.3L

Yeah the teardown looks like conventional that was ran 20-30k miles to get to that level of sludge.

Great video. I've always used a full synthetic in both my Rangers mainly because of the high heat we had when I lived in AZ. I doubt I'll ever hit 500K (I only have 15,835 now) but it's nice to see the difference between the two and how much varnish is in the conventional one compared the the full synthetic one.

The main flaw I see in the test is how many of us would have ran a conventional oil to 10k before changing it. My line of thought on dino oil is 3 to 5k for changes. Even on my full synthetic I'm only doing 5k.

You all should be looking at this from a different perspective.....
Sludge is half-way between oil and grease.....and since both are good for your vehicle, it can't hurt.....right ???
Think of sludge as just "thick oil" or "light grease" !!!

True but they're going by the manufacturers specs which most people out there follow. Like you I change my oil and rotate my tires every 5,000 miles and while some have said I'm wasting money I say it's my money and it's cheap insurance. Plus I drive under 10,000 miles/year it's not breaking the bank in any means. ?

I’ve had non-car people tell me that the government needs to issue a law requiring that dealerships sit down and explain the maintenance schedule to customers when they sell a car.

I countered, “that’s what the owner’s manual is for.”

to which they felt like that was too much to expect of people. For them to read a manual.

1) it amazes me that people will spend tens of thousands of dollars on a vehicle and not understand it enough to take care of it. A vehicle is often the second most expensive thing someone buys. You gotta have some sense of taking care of something you invest money into. To ignore this will cost you thousands and thousands more. I just don’t understand how in the age of the internet the entire idea of the importance of oil changes hasnt trickled down to the dumbest of society. If you can use a McDonald’s drive thru you can use a valvoline/jiffy lube/whatever drive thru.

2) im also irritated whenever people recognize stupidity and decide the best route forward is go to the government to put up guard rails and legislate/regulate stuff. It just breeds oblivious people, and increases reliance on the government. I work with government employees daily. You do NOT want us being any more involved in your life than we have to.

It's not all that surprising really. I had installed solar on my house in AZ back in 2016 and did extensive research for over a year. A friend of a friend added solar to his house a couple years later and we were talking one morning about it. I asked him a few questions about it like what panels did you get, what size system do you have and is it an inverter or micro inverters? He gave me this deer in the headlight look and had no idea what he just paid (overpaid) for! ?‍ All he knew was the price and that they told him it "should" cover his usage. So yeah, there are many out there that just don't want to do the legwork and have someone else do it for them. ie...lazy!

sorry to wind a little off topic on this thread, but your comment is really emphasizing to me that i perhaps need to be more graceful towards anyone and everyone in this forum. i know i've asked really stupid questions. i try to admit it up front when i feel like i don't know something i should. the reality is that anyone who takes the time to create an account here and try to learn something with regards to an issue they're having is putting them in an increasingly smaller minority of society. in other words, i feel like i should try and start every interaction with a degree of respect that someone is taking time to learn rather than just being lazy and (over)paying someone to do it for them.

LOL (caps?), i'm very lazy about my capital letters. i actually used to do audio dictation at a law firm and had to be perfect with capitalization and all that as i typed. in order to not go insane i had to develop an "off the clock" way of typing. otherwise my mind felt like i was still at work. perfection made me imperfect. apologies!

Plus with the gas in the oil its like an automatic engine flush. So the sludge to make sure the gas does not leave the engine dry with no oil.
