Parked next to one of the local power utility’s forestry trucks.

Noticed it halfway down my driveway from the window and thought Sid was stopping by the cottage for a visit but then I quickly realized it had far too few lights to be @Msfitoy

btw - up close, those bucket trucks are enormous!

Parked next to "the Mittens" and Merrick Butte at Monument Valley, Navajo Nation. This is actually a campground parking lot, the tent is down there on the sand out of view. There is a small area for about 30 tents just below the lot but only 5 or 6 show up per night in summer / we made our reservation early and had a site at the very front of the campground with no one in front of us for 2 nights/ unobstructed view of the buttes from the tent .. it's hot in July but also very quiet. we like it that way. This was part of a 2610 mile trip that went very well, I'll do a short trip report later. of note: 120F+ up and over mountains in and out of Death Valley water temp barely went up and AC did function.

actually that is not entirely accurate: what it meant was that was the highest temp for That particular Day. the highest recorded temp is over 130. it hits 128 most summers at some time, just usually later in the summer late July or August, that happened early July. I'm in DV a few times a year, mostly in summer i like it HOT. my desert parcels see 115+ for most of July/ i've actually motorcycled thru the Park in July and August several times and have seen the "big thermometer" at the visitor center bounce between 128/129 more than once. 120+ is standard for late July into mid August.

This a quote from the article in the link:
California's Death Valley - one of the hottest places on Earth - broke its own heat record for the day on Friday, with the mercury soaring to 127 F. It beat the old mark of 122 F last tied in 2013, the Associated Press reports.

It sounded like it was saying that this was the hottest temperature record for the daytime since 2013 and upon re-reading it might have meant that the temperature taken on that Friday (July 5th) was the hottest July 5th on record.

yeah i am quite certain it was the hottest July 5th not the hottest day ever/ "for the day" is the operative here. There were a lot of confusing headlines for sure that would lead one to believe it was hottest overall but 127F is every summer at some point/ the hottest day ever was 134F in 1913 is debatable due to equipment at the time, the hottest for certain is 132F recorded in the last few years i forget exactly when. I've been there in summer enough to say we see 128F every year in late July into August. I'm actually headed back for a few more days in the north end of Death Valley next week but it will be higher elevation so only around 110F. I'll get another photo of the truck with the Dunes, it is a rough ride out there the truck will get a workout haha
